A friend collected comics 40+ years ago. I don’t know much about collecting but took photos of this comic. I know it is worth a good amount, but dependent on grade. It has been bagged for 45 years. Any opinions of grade as is? After researching a bit, I see that comics can be cleaned and pressed. Would it be recommended in this situation? What grade might it produce if cleaned and pressed? He’s got 49 and 50 as well, but some spine creases in those. I don’t think he wants to sell it now but just wants to preserve it from any degradation. Thank you for any information.

I think Bo has this one dialed-in pretty well.  The color breaking wear along the bottom edge is well beyond what's acceptable in the VF range (and there are other flaws).  In my opinion, you're looking at something in the 6.0 FN to 6.5 FN+ range, at best.  A clean/press may remove a couple of minor blemishes, but it's not going to fix the color breaks and/or fuzzy/worn corners.  :foryou:

My first thought was "in a bag for 45 years, that's not possible."

Then I remembered that's only back to 1977. My brain doesn't realize how old I am.

This is where I'm at as well. I don't think it can break into 7.0 territory with the bottom edge and corner.
