Think they are pointing out how the "infrastructure" used in the slabs doesn't work with all formats of media.

The inner guts of the slab draws my eye, not the actual item. 

Plus the "seal" in the middle isn't even parallel to the rest of the slab - the whole thing looks cheap.

Yes, though it was intended as a double entendre targeting CGC's oft-lamented lack of customer service...that their support infrastructure is a joke and so is the support structure in that slab.

The book was probably too thick and heavy to be done like this though:
