I am very not confident about what to expect from these regular paper books. I only have a few Captain Britains and a FOOM in this format, and the two I send for pressing/grading are still sitting at CGC. My suspicion is that cleaning only really works well with glossy surfaces and there's some soiling on this book. Pressing maybe takes some of the divots out of the spine, or at least makes them look better. They really can't be color-breaking since the spine is white, but those groves have collected some grime. My WAG is 6.5±1.0. High degree of uncertainty b/c I have very little to go off of.

I feel the soft paper will be made completely flat with a press.  There are methods of removing grime...

Search the Boards here for conservation people.  I've seen a few threads with some recommendations.

The open edge cuts and perforation are considered "production defects" and would not count against the book in grading.  You could very well get a higher grade on this one.

As already stated by others, I am not familiar with books in this format, they are similar to my "Adventures Of The Big Boy" books.

What I see is severe staining, numerous spine ticks, discolored staples, 5 perforation (gripper) holes, perforated edges, after looking at other issues of this book online it appears to be a bindery defect since other issues also have perforated edges.

As the book sits right now...

5.5 FINE- (FN-):  Back to Top
Fits the criteria for Fine but with an additional defect or small accumulation of defects that detracts from the book's appearance by a perceptible amount.

5.0 VERY GOOD/FINE (VG/FN):  Back to Top
An above-average but well used comic book. An accumulation of bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor to moderate cover wear apparent, with minor to moderate creases and/or dimples. Inks have moderate to low reflectivity. Blunted corners are increasingly common, as is minor to moderate staining, discoloration, and/or foxing. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. A minor to moderate spine roll is allowed. A spine split of up to 1/2" may be present. Staples may show minor discoloration. Minor staple tears and minor stress lines may also be present, as well as minor rust migration. Paper is tan to brown with no signs of brittleness. Centerfold may be loose. Minor interior tears may also be present.
