Did you buy these volumes from Heritage back in 2008 or were the bound volumes dispersed first and you had to piece them back together? I see that back in 2008 they had a volume with 7 and 10-21, so I'm guessing we'll see another gap at the beginning of the run? Given how fresh the comics look and how old the binding looks, I don't doubt these could have been bound by Fawcett. But how do you know? Heritage did not say that in the listing. Love your volumes - makes me very open to buying bound copies!

Popular Post ttecwaf
Used to be against “bound volumes”. For those with limited budgets it can take years to fill in runs (for the few of us that still go for runs). Bound copies (especially file copies) usually have incredible cover gloss and will never be graded (can always flip thru the comic). So, by getting bound volumes sped up the process of completing runs and was much more affordable at the time. In the 1980’s Sparkle City Comics (not the current Sparkle City that sells on ebay) obtained items from the Fawcett warehouse including the Whiz Ashcan’s. They were selling issues at a convention. There were boxes filled with incredible copies. As a poor student I bought a few before a representative from Geppi’s arrived and bought all of them. This was before CGC so there was no real documentation. Of course some of the copies had creases and tears but the cover colors literally popped . They were amazing. Years later I was able to look thru many of the Crowley copies before most were graded and auctioned on Heritage. The covers were similar to the file copies but the interiors were brown especially the inside covers. I passed (yes big mistake). Technically they are high grades but the interior quality is lacking. My understanding is there were two volumes (runs) for many of the Fawcett issues. The were not identical runs. Some were sold by I believe redmelvin 27 and thebigloo on ebay (both I believe were the Dentist) and Heritage. I spoke with both the Dentist and Geppi at a convention and with Heritage. I do not have a piece of paper but they are all from the Fawcett library (all have consistent binding and appearance). Here are two Captain Marvel issues I picked up before Geppi took the rest (and the bound version of 147). Earlier in this thread I posted a few of the Master single copies I was able to pick up. The colors are amazing. As for “gaps” as I said earlier there are two gaps and the first was 22-34. The countdown goes to issue 1 but there is one more gap (only 2 issues). 50YrsCollctngCmcs, adamstrange, ThothAmon and 2 others
Robot Man
I figured these were from the Fawcett warehouse. And that somehow they passed through Geppi in some way. He was known to be a big lover of bound volumes and have or had loads of them. I am also a lover of them and have collected them for years for the same reasons to posted. High grade and glossy and being able to read it look through multiple consecutive issues all at one time. And, the prices (at least used to be, pretty affordable). Favorites in my collection are Wings 1-12 FH office copies from George Tuska’s estate, and complete runs of all the Carl Barks Ducks in two volumes and Scrooge 1-40 in two volumes. Lots of shorter run GA books. They are just so fun to own. Thanks for posting yours. Been a lot of fun to see them roll out! AJD
