Can rusty staples now be replaced without costing a blue label? 1 1

Hello again! This is a complicated answer. These questions are answered in the new CGC Guide to Grading Comics found in our CCG Store as well!

If a new staple is added to a comic, but not placed directly into the existing staple holes (rather placed somewhere else on the book), that staple is treated as “extra staple added after manufacturing”.

In the case of the Mystic, someone took the top staple out, then put a new staple in, but below the existing staple holes.

Because of this the book will be downgraded for both a missing staple and the addition of the extra staple.

Had the extra staple been added directly into the existing holes where the original staple was, the book would get a conserved grade rather than be downgraded for the two reasons listed above.

I’ve got the new grading guide on order, but haven’t yet received it. do you know how extensive the downgrade would be if i placed a new staple in a different spot?  
 

ive got a 9.0 blue label with a rusted staple. I figure I’d prefer a blue label 8.0 to a conserved 9.0. But if the 9.0 would get downgraded more extensively than to a 8.0 blue, then I’ve got a more troublesome decision to make
