You don’t like MTU?:whatthe:

I loved it. One offs are OK. No permanent team joining though, to be clear. Or semi-permanent

Thank goodness.  Loved MTU:cloud9:

No teams for Spidey(tsk)

I do enjoy the dynamic duo of "Spider" & Black Cat though....

Yes, I loved it when he bumped into another character and fought against or alongside them in a one off story, especially in the early MTUs. But long term team arrangements go against his nature, I think. Or at least his original nature. I wasn't keen on him being an Avenger in the films either really, and playing second fiddle to Iron Man all the time.

I didn't like him being sidekick to Tony at all.  Too much tech, not enough what makes Spidey great.

As you said, he's a loner.  But bumping into other heroes & teaming up to deal with the latest crisis.:cloud9:

I think my fave MTU arc has got to be 82-83

When it comes to imagination in comics, Mr. Fantastic is a great character.  One ish that shows it is the first appearance of Attuma in FF33.  Torch runs into Lady Dorma seeking help from humans and takes her to the Baxter Building.  There, they learn of Attuma's threat to the undersea world of the Submariner, and of the desires of the new baddie to conquer the surface world as well.  Reed whips up on the spot some Oxy-Spray that lets the team breathe underwater for hours at a time, and down they go to do battle.  I remember a scene from the battle where the FF don't want their presence known to Attuma's forces - Reed turns his body into the shape of a giant manta ray, and hides the rest of the team in it as Attuma's army goes by.

As scripted by Stan, plotted and drawn by Jack, it's rollicking good fun, of the kind that made the Silver Age so great.

Everything works in comics, doesn't it. Charming, if preposterous good fun :cloud9:

I don't like the tech in the films at all. Was there a Stark suit that basically made his spider sense redundant?

The Spidey I loved was the one I grew up with. ASM 1-200 encapsulated my era - it was of its time, and worked. I don't mind that the characters develop and change - that's inevitable - but the original was the best, for me.

I believe 181 was where I began buying ASM off the stands as they came out.

Great cliffhangers back then. Waiting for the next issue..:ohnoez:F235F09D-0F56-4C5F-BBBD-3783C285DB87.thumb.jpeg.cd6e38a6fe4e5e8edb77f8b4017e96f5.jpeg20C46922-3906-46F1-9C94-64A49B10C368.thumb.jpeg.f15a814f5f3efb9517455b30db2ddad9.jpeg

To be fair that never should have been a requirement for that Scout patch.

Golden Age Plastic Man by Jack Cole was amazingly inventive as well.

Or this guy.

To me, it looked like he was wearing a toga, or something similar.

So, not being clued up on obscure GA characters, I wondered if there was some particular reason for looking like this, even in the 1940's?

Turns out there is...

"A Greek statue of the mythical hero Antaeus that can come to life and fight criminals with its superhuman strength and ability to bounce."

It can sometimes be too easy to mock. I was guilty, though.

You'll have a hard time convincing me that any long-term iconic character is truly "lame". Superman is the ultimate plot device and the ideal moral figure of inspiration. Funny enough, Mr. Fantastic is not as flexible a character as Superman, as he only works for me in a team setting. That's because he's flawed - unlike Superman - and needs the balance of teammates to achieve his goals.
