Thanks for the kind words, all.  I think it was a great contest.  only 2 people missed sending in grades for round 4.  1 person did but, was a half hour too late.  Hopefully we will have the results tomorrow.  If not, they will be Monday.

8 points this round if I'm not mistaken... ah well. Kind of ironic that I bombed the low-grade GA; that's usually my strong suit.

That Tec getting a 5.5 has to be the poster child for why people who sell CGC comics say "no returns on CGC."   If I bought it w/o seeing the back cover I'd simply destroy it and buy another copy somewhere (and strike the seller off my 'trust' list); and having seen the back, still can't imagine how it ever could rate better than a 4.0.  Rusted staple stain and water staining, pretty ugly.

The Tec was actually my only bullseye. I thought it looked likely to be a nice copy in hand (very bright covers, deep rich inks, crisp edges and corners...) and I suspected it was on the high end of the VGish range we would all grade it.

That same philosophy tripped me up on those two GA books though, as it looks like I gave them *way* too much of a bump. Sheesh. Back to Grading 101 for me!

Right with you.   Foolishly I got a golden age book graded recently that didn't look as nice as those first two.  I sadly used that as a baseline.  Also my FF #48 in 6.0 looks like a dog compared to that FF #48

Bad round for me, I'm probably out. I thought the first two books would have a much bigger "Golden Age Bump."

So... I just woke up from hitting the sack really early yesterday, and what do I see checking the results this morning...

Big 3, Dynamic Comics, and SSWS: 3 bulls

Detective Comics and Fantastic Four: off by .5

...'scuze me... I think I'm going to faint....

I finished with 7 points this round.

My biggest regret is the FF. It's just not the 6.5 I called it. Too much damage in the logo, and at the top edge.

I went back and forth on Big 3, and settled on 3.0, instead of 3.5.

I can certainly see why the Detective was 5.5, and not the 6.0 I gave it.

I think 4.5 for Dynamic was very harsh. 2 points there.

War Stories was a "god knows" for me, and he didn't share.

18 points was the 1st place total after 4 rounds last contest.

20 points this time, 25 last time and 31 in the spring. 

Probably slipped out of 3rd place tie.

I think I under-graded so many books in previous rounds that I went crazy with this last one and over-graded all but 2 bullseyes

Hey Mike, a question only if you feel like answering. Idly curious if these contest books are typically all graded at the same time, by the same graders? No big deal, just wondering.

I know they are all graded at the same time.  Then, they are all imaged, encapsulated and imaged again.    I am not sure if they are all graded by the same graders.  Out of curiosity, I will ask.

I didn't see it either and I keep bumping up my grades because I'm usually too low, but it was fun and  I HOPE there were different graders.

The Tec book hurt me I had it much lower at 3.0
