I use artist's tape (or drafting tape, depending on who you're talking to) - it's low tack, and slightly thicker than other tapes. It's also easier to remove even after many years of being attached to paper compared to other tapes. But use sparingly, just as a rule of thumb.

It's white, and generally comes in rolls, and the tape has varying thickness, but I generally use 3/8"-1/2" wide.

There is also some sort of archival hinge-tape, which I think David above talked about. I've never used it or seen it in person, but that might be an option - although I don't think you can get it at a craft store, probably online order only.
