Not including notes for a 9.2 graded book is ridiculous

This book always has a poly bag crease and the graders know it and look for it specifically. If you didn't have it pressed out, they saw it and graded accordingly. Hard to see in the case but here was mine before I had it pressed out. If you didn't even open the bag before sending it in, you have no idea the quality of the book you sent them.

Ding ding, we have a winner.  Your images help illustrate the need for a press.

I like CGC, but that's an insult to not include notes on a book that looks pristine yet is graded 9.2. I get it if there is an obvious issue with the book, but when it looks like a NM copy, the whole 9.2-9.4-9.6 thing is so subjective and should be explained in the notes. Makes me want to avoid getting anything graded as I have to trust that someone wasn't just having a bad day.

I agree. However, you'll find several distinct camps on this forum who strongly believe one way to the other.

Thanks! I definitely may have missed something internal, but externally I couldn't find a single flaw. I considered sending it for pressing, but in this case there just wasnt anything to press or clean--to my untrained eye.

I should be receiving the book back tomorrow and I'll definitely post some scans.

Always press your books prior to grading! Maximize potential best possible! ..

Yeah sure you can sleep with a hooker without a condom on, but why take the risk? Ya know?

(Better safe than sorry 😋)

What a ^&%*@ JOKE this whole CCS/CGC scam is. UNBELIEVABLE.

I sent it to CCS and paid for fast track. Took them nearly a month, despite supposed turnaround times of 7 working days. Sent it in a 9.2 and after the amazing work at CCS, it has now been regraded...

a 9.2.

AND ONCE AGAIN, NO &#*@& NOTES.

I'm done with them and I'm going to see what their customer service is able to do for me. If nothing, I'm going to see if I have any other kind of consumer protection recourse. This is a joke. Scam.

Pressing is not a magical grade-bump process. This simply confirms that the book was correctly graded the first time around. (shrug)

Yeah, I get that, but gee NOTES would have saved me a lot of expense and trouble. That's the whole point of the thread.

When will people give up on the lack of transparency? It's a great business model to claim to do something but have to show absolutely no evidence of actually doing it. And if you show no evidence, you'll still have people defending you claiming that what the customer is asking for is "magical."

They're never going to provide notes for most NM grades for multiple reasons:

  1. It's a waste of their time.
  2. It would force them to create objective criteria in a field that lacks objectivity.
  3. The above would create a method to deconstruct their grading practices, which is proprietary.

Had I noticed that you posted images, I would have advised you not to press and regrade. 2c

Edit: I actually did comment that you 'may have made a fatal mistake' by submitting to CCS. lol

It is absolutely not a waste of their time. It is the only thing that will save their business in the long run. You know as well as I do that these books are important to people--either as a personal collectible they cherish, or as an investment. Either way, if there is no transparency then the entire value of the service is at risk. This is a fragile hobby--after all, how long will people want to spend thousands of dollars for a book that was meant to be perishable when it was created? It is all based on perceived value, and if the standards aren't clear then people will give up. I'm ready to give up on graded books because the two leaders in the field cant seem to put the customer first.

It absolutely is a waste of their time logging defects that people with experience will detect. Are you aware of how many errors CGC has made in the last few years? Yet people are still submitting. Continuing a practice that they've been using for more than 20 years isn't going to affect their business.

Then there is no point to having a comic graded. What recourse is there if a clearly NM book is graded a 5.0? If it's all subjective and we have to simply accept the grade without any indication as to what led to it then it has no value at all.
