zephyr424
Greetings. I bought the Amazing Spiderman 39 recently and noticed something very odd. There is a sort of rainbow-colored, ultra-violet like staining all throughout the inside of the front case. It's really strange and I'm concerned about it either damaging the book in the future or lowering the resale value. It's almost like what you would see if car oil dripped into a water puddle. The only explanations I can think of are a contaminated case somehow came from cgc or someone cleaned the comic's cover with a substance that is now showing up between the cover and the case itself. it's possibly my favorite comic too and is signed by Stan Lee. Pictures attached. Does anyone have an idea of what this is or what should be done about it? If so, please advise. Thanks Edited March 9, 2023 by zephyr424
Administrator CGC Mike Posted March 1, 2023 Administrator Share Posted March 1, 2023 Hello What you are seeing is an optical illusion called newton rings. You could send the book back to us as a reholder option in the submission form to get this corrected. Mike

Chief1332
Is this due to something on the book, something on the case, ...??? Lazyboy and Foolish Mortal!

It's poor QC, plain and simple. People slab their books to ensure their beauty and grade as best they can And are sometimes rewarded with something that can Greatly Detract from that beauty. Just a shame... Foolish Mortal!
eastriver400
That’s ectoplasmic residue, commonly known as ghost slime. I appreciate everyone not wanting to scare you but this “newton ring” nonsense is a straight out lie. I hate to be the one to say it but that book is haunted. Hes Dead Jim
i read about newton rings all over this forum but in my personal non comic holder experience ive never seen a rainbow effect like that where moisture wasn't involved. that being said, a drop of moisture the size of a pin tip can spread way out in all directions when compressed between two pieces of clear plastic of any type. the bottom line in my opinion is that the vast majority of complaints posted on this forum should have easily been caught before being shipped out. id personally rather wait longer if it means more care will be taken. qc qc qc
