Cosmic Aeroplane - Super Magician v3 #12 2 2

Hey everyone - I recently picked up a copy of Super Magician Comics v3 #12 and wanted to get some opinions on the check marks throughout the book. Does this look like a book from the Cosmic Aeroplane pedigree. I wasn’t sure if the check marks were typically numbered restarting with each story. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the feedback everyone. This was one of those online buys where you don’t get to see the pages of the book. I couldn’t see the check mark on the cover either until I had it in hand. Nice little surprise

I can't resist piggybacking off this thread. I have this Kaanga #15 shown below where most of the pages have check marks next to the female figures. PQ is really nice and bright, and the inside covers have no tanning at all. What do you think -- is this also a Cosmic Aeroplane, or is it some other pedigree, or just a random file copy?

I recently picked up my first Cosmic Aeroplane for a song from an auction house.  It was sold as a Cosmie Aeroplane. 

 

Your comment about "check marks next to the female figures" caught my eye.  I looked at the interior of my book, which I didn't pay much attention to b/c I bought it for the cover and realized that in it too it is the female figures that are being "checked."  That Salt Lake City art teacher who sold the books to the Cosmic Aeroplane store, a cornerstone of the counter-culture in SLC, must have been a little wicked.  The namesake store:

That "W.C. HOLT JR." stamp is on a number of Cosmic Aeroplane books.  Worth noting then that William C. Holt Jr. of Salt Lake City, Utah passed away on August 30, 1971 at the age of 56.  I don't know if he was an art teacher, but he's the right age to have been buying the Cosmic Aeroplane books starting in the 1930s for use in his classes and he died at the right time for his collection to have been sold to the Cosmic Aeroplane shop in 1972. I still call "Church" books "Mile Highs," but in the interest of consistency maybe CGC should call this the Cosmic Aeroplane/William C. Holt Jr. pedigree. 

Interesting to know if there's any sort of WWII gap in the collection.

I've owned a number of Cosmic Aeroplane copies and this is exactly what they look like!!! I should get around to cracking this one out, if for no other reason, just to check it out!!!   Btw, nice grab!!!

I love the Cosmic Aeroplane books, and the bookstore. They were set up at San Diego in the late 70s and had some really cool looking t-shirts available. The shirts had the store logo and a nude space woman in silhouette with stars in all of the important places. So I bought one, took it back to Houston, and wore it to school the first chance I got. Busted - too risque for Texas high school. I had to go home and change.

The article linked above gives a great retrospective of The Cosmic Aeroplane Bookstore. I met Ken Sanders a few years ago when he came to a Houston antiquarian book show with Bud Plant. It was great to get to hear the back story of the collection from the guy who originally purchased it.

I love CA's, I think I have more of them than any other ped. He liked his Fiction House stuff for sure, here's a Planet interior. 

 

This Cosmic is my fave though. Hard to beat.
