Collectible Toy Expert

Sarasota, FL

The Certified Collectibles Group® (CCG®) is seeking to hire top experts to join a new division dedicated to authenticating and grading collectible toys (e.g., Funko Pop!). This division will be part of Certified Guaranty Company® (CGC®), the world’s leading third-party grading service for pop culture collectibles, including comic books, trading cards, magazines, concert posters, and more.

The formation of a new division for collectible toys follows CGC’s highly successful launch of CGC Trading Cards in 2020 and the launch of CGC Video Games in 2022. We are continuing to expand our services to meet the high demand for expert and impartial certification across a variety of collectibles categories.

Being part of the launch of the new division for collectible toys is an incredible opportunity for the world’s top experts to help build authentication and grading services in one of the hottest collectibles categories, backed by a company and leadership team that has a proven track record in collectibles certification.

In this role, you will:
  • Identify counterfeit, altered, or restored collectible toys (e.g., Funko Pop!)
  • Develop a standardized grading scale and apply it to submissions of collectible toys
  • Accurately enter data into a computer system
  • Consult with senior management and others on the collectible toy market, marketing initiatives, and related topics
What will help you succeed:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of collectible toys (e.g., Funko Pop!)
  • Expansive expertise as it relates to the production and condition of collectible toys, including all accompanying packaging as it relates to them
  • Outstanding ability to detect counterfeit and altered collectible toys
  • Knowledge of variants of collectible toys
  • The highest level of integrity
  • A strong desire to grow as well as train and lead other team members
  • A willingness to travel domestically as needed
The ideal candidates will also be well-known and highly respected in the toy-collecting community.

Our benefits include the most competitive compensation in the industry along with career advancement opportunities and a generous full-time benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance options; 401(k) with company match; paid time-off benefits, and more. Salary is commensurate with experience and ability.

@ADAMANTIUMappreciate the vote of confidence! Unfortunately I'd say my knowledge is maybe slightly above average, definitely not approaching "expert". Especially if we're bringing in modern "toys" like Funko Pops. If they end up needing an Alien-specific grader, who minored in Transformers and Joes, I'm your guy!

Plus, I don't think the wife will go for the move to Florida. Too many crazies down there!  :baiting: @CGC Mike

lol Indeed, I thought it was just fun :) in the end it's a big transition, and the post was more on a whim than the actual choice

But if it started a conversation, then who knows?  I didn't get many toys as a kid, so it's fun to hear y'all talk and reminisce!! :x

There's definitely a small part of me that entertained the notion! It would be a fun retirement gig, I think. But I'm sure there are many other collectors who'd blow my knowledge out of the water.

Well, CCG is a great place to work.  Driving can be very dangerous.

If it ever happened that I was hired on, we'd just crash with you, assuming that's cool.

No problem.  It's only a 2 1/2 hour commute to CCG  (1 way)

And geez, good luck finding someone who has managed to stay up-to-date with the general market on its own, but ALSO add Funko POP! to the mix. I couldn't even begin on those bloody things.

Is that a threat?

It reminded me of a local lawyer on tv, his tune catch phrase at the end of the commercial? is "... Don't let an accident wreck your life?!?", which I've often thought sounded a little mob oriented :roflmao:

It's become like the other programming that I don't often watch, too much going on, that will have to sort itself out. A lot of AA, accept the things I can or cannot control

Yeah, I'm sure there is that unicorn out there, but for most collectors I know it's really one or the other: you specialise in Pops or the rest of the market, ie everything else. That's just how much product Funko produces across its associated lines.

No.  I have only crashed into someone one time.  We were playing chicken on our street bikes.  I guess we got confused at which way we were supposed to turn, and hit each other head on.  We had to push our bikes home.  The other guy was crying about his leg.  I thought to  myself, "what a baby"
