A couple of Lions. I don't get many dupes of Lion Books because they are so scarce I'm happy to find any kind of first copies but I'll share what I got.

 

Slaughter Street by Louis Falstein   Lion 151 PBO     1953    $25  SOLD to goldust40

A savage crime novel with great GGA cover art by Lou Marchetti. It's becoming a Lou Marchetti day - which is ok by me because he's one of my favorites

Fine/Fine Plus - looks better but has some NCB creases on the cover. Solid square and glossy with nice page quality for a Lion.

Frankenstein by Mary Shelley  Lion Books No. 146  1953  A rare book in any condition     $60   SOLD to goldust40

The first mass market pb of the classic horror novel (I don't consider the uber-rare Armed Services Edition to be a true mass-market pb, even though I have a nice one)   Art uncredited but both Ruben and I think it's Lou Marchetti from the dead Good Girl's features.

Near Fine. Solid and square, pages tight, has a reader crease and some color flecking to covers but covers are otherwise smooth and uncreased. Spine is a bit faded. Pages and inner covers are toned as usual for these. One of the best I've seen. My copy is only slightly better.

Classic JD/Drug book with cover art of a James Dean looking tough staring down a moll by Walter Popp 

Near Fine. Square and tight with good color and smooth covers. Spine is sunned and pages have spotting and toning but that front cover looks great.

No Angels For Me by William Ard, Popular Library #591           $20  SOLD to mstrange

Nice GGA by Popp on front and back covers.

 Fine/Fine Plus. Spine is solid and square. Covers are glossy, pages tight and supple. Light reader's crease and thumb crease. Minimal wear otherwise.  A pretty copy of a skinny little book that is usually trashed.

The Perfect Frame by William Ard, Popular Library #416    1952      $20 SOLD to mstrange

Nice Headlights/Nipple GGA - it's uncredited - the guys look a lot like Belarski dudes but the girl is a bit different.

Ard was a great noir writer.

Fine Plus. Spine is solid with slight slant. Covers are glossy, pages tight and supple. Crease on back cover and a few thumb bends here and there. Minimal wear otherwise.

Classic Belarski JD cover art and one of the most famous pb covers ever for sure.

Very Good. Spine is solid with slight slant. Has a bunch of light creases and general wear, book has a bend to it from storage that would probably straighten out with a backing board in the bag. Covers retain some gloss, pages tight and supple. A must have that still looks nice on display.

Iconic Rudolph Belarski GGA cover art. One of the most recognized and reprinted covers in the Vintage Paperback hobby.

I'm constantly looking for and upgrading with this book so I can one have for sale.

Tough to grade this one. Calling it Fine/Fine Plus. Spine has some slant, binding is tight like new, pages tight and supple. Great centering. Covers are bright smooth and glossy, only a hint of edgewear. Some fading to the page edge dye.  A great looking copy

Classic Earl Bergey GGA cover art. A "fridge magnet" cover, known to collectors everywhere. A pretty looking copy of a very pretty cover.

Very Good/Very Good Plus. Looks Fine/Fine plus but has some wrinkling to the page block, not the covers. Spine has some slant, binding is tight, pages supple. Great color. Covers are smooth without creases, just a bunch of edge/corner wear.

The Million Dollar Babe by Carter Brown  Signet S1909    First Edition First Printing. February 1961    $20  SOLD to jimjum12

Another early Carter Brown with gorgeous chest-lights cover by Barye Phillips .  I'd bet on that.

Fine/Fine Plus. Bright and glossy. Spine is solid and tight, has slight slant. Tiny chips to the spine tips and hairline reader crease. Nice page quality.   She's still a million bucks to me.
