Jason2222
I have a few pieces of original art for fun and display, not a hardcore collector. Many years ago I had a chance to buy my favorite character, Guy Gardner #1 by Joe Staton. Drawn and inked, with the original stickers and notes on the back, and the logo acetate. I don't have a place to display it at the moment, and with the movie with him coming out, I thought I should part with it. Can anyone offer a suggestion of value, round about, and the best place to sell? Thanks so much!

alxjhnsn
Evrery thing I know can be found in the "hidden text" in the first post on the thread called Pricing Comic Art - 2023 Edition. I strongly advise two actions: Ignore the offers you get through the direct messages supported by this board. Read the advice on that thread especially the part that suggests learning about the market. Happy to take questions, accept comments, and listen to concerns. timguerrero
I'd probably go with Heritage if they would be willing to place it in a Signature auction to get the most money from it. If they just offer to put it in the weekly auctions look elsewhere those rarely sell well. alxjhnsn
MAY1979
IMHO would about same on comiclink but with 50% lower fees for seller. Thus potential higher net.

fsumavila
Definitely go to Heritage or CLink. That cover should do nicely on either site. Bigger pool of potential buyers on Heritage, so definitely inquire about a lower seller's fee
Rick2you2
I would suggest that you not part with it until you get a date for the movie's release. Also, see if the auction houses would be willing to place it in auction right after the movie comes out. That should get you your highest return (unless the movie stinks). Not AFTER the movie. DC movies tend to do terribly and can hurt the value of art (look at Shazam, Black Adam and Flash art right now). I'd want it in the auction BEFORE the movie comes out when all the hype is going strong. Hockeyflow33, tth2, MAY1979 and 3 others
Carl Elvis
As others have suggested, Heritage, and if you can, wait until just before the movie comes out. Ride that marketing wave to the bank. Here’s the best match I could find; https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/covers/joe-staton-and-bruce-patterson-green-lantern-195-cover-original-art-dc-1985-/a/7340-95503.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515

I was only vaguely aware this was being done at all. Michael Browning

If I even get wind that a DC movie is coming out and I've got art of the main character or a character that is supposedly hot because he/she appears in the movie, I will sell quickly or hide that stuff away because I want to make sure it doesn't get the taint from the always-terrible-and-always-bombing DC movies. Jason2222
I want to thank everyone for all the information, it's been great and I've been studying. Heritage would like to list it, but waiting to tell what kind of auction. A $1 opening bid makes me nervous. IMO Heritage will get the highest final price, just depends on how much of a cut they're taking. I think you'll do well.

Start Notes Create a new note Click on the camera icon Choose “Scan document” Touch the button once it is framed. Notes scanner will square the image and do some light balancing. It’s almost as good as a scanner. Carl Elvis and Twanj

Don't wait for them to tell you what kind of auction they want to list it in. If you want it to go into a Signature Auction, tell them that's one of your conditions for consigning it. Actually, I think the results of the weekly auctions have been very strong in recent years, so I don't think it really matters that much at the end of the day. But if you do care, then you should insist. On 7/29/2023 at 2:46 AM, Jason2222 said: A $1 opening bid makes me nervous. Don't be. Reserves put people off. $1 opening bids draw a lot of attention from the outset, and when people know that the piece will definitely be selling, they tend to bid more aggressively. I recently lost a lot of money on Heritage Weekly Auctions people don't follow those as closely as a signature auction. If they decline placing it in a signature auction go with Comiclink you can contact Steve Borock to get this set up in one of their auctions. Michael Browning
This sold this weekend. I don’t think it did as well as some people thought it would. In a better art market, I think it could have hit $5,000, but things are a bit down at the moment. I hope the seller made a profit on it. -m
Agreed. I’m not sure why this went low. Staton, 90s cover and #1 issue. I probably should have bid on it. Hopefully it went to a GL fan and not end up for sale again in a month at $10k… Twanj and Michael Browning
