Sin Pit by Paul Meskil Lion Books 198   March 1954      A very rare book.       $75   SOLD to goldust40

If you know this book, you know, If you don't you should. It's so good, in the depraved noir sense, I felt kind of dirty reading it, but couldn't put it down. One you don't forget - too bad he didn't write more, he had the frailty of the human condition down pat. Nice copies are elusive, there are no copies for sale for less than $150 that I know of, and the cover art is so evocative (uncredited, looks a lot like Lou Marchetti to me)  Offering here an affordable copy that someone will surely love.

Here's the scoop from Wiki: Sin Pit is a crime novel by American journalist Paul S. Meskil (Jul 2, 1923–Oct 11, 2005) published by Lion Books in 1954. It is one of those rare paperback originals that has achieved cult status through a combination of circumstances, including the fact the author wrote only one work of crime fiction, the initial print run was relatively low for paperbacks at the time, the book had only one print run by the original publisher (Lion Books) and, finally, found an audience years later among collectors of 1950s paperback crime novels.  Sin Pit shares all the above circumstances with another paperback crime novel published a year earlier, in 1953, that similarly achieved cult status — Black Wings Has My Angel by Elliott Chaze, published by Fawcett Gold Medal. Both authors were respected journalists their entire lives and wrote only a single crime novel that was never republished until years later, only after gaining an audience among aficionados of pulp fiction.

Very Good minus/Very Good. Spine has slant and wear and pages are uneven, but it's all solid on the spine and the front cover image is actually smooth and presents very well without big creases. Page quality is very good although there are a bunch of dog eared pages. Like a comic book that "looks great in a mylar"

Brood of Fury by Jess Shelton  Crest Giant d434  1st Printing  March 1961      $25  SOLD to mstrange

One of the many bodice-ripping "Mandingo" imitations from the 1960's. Stan Zuckerberg was a follower of Avati and mostly painted dark, realist covers, but man, when he went Good Girl, he went Good.  One of the best tail-lights covers ever.

Fine Plus/Very Fine minus. Beautiful, glossy and smooth. Colors are deep. Off white pages, minimal toning to interiors. Small crease on lower back cover. A gorgeous book.

The Strange Ways Of Love by Clayton Matthews  Monarch Books 207   August 1961      $30  SOLD to mstrange

Peek-a-boo! While I love "Brood of Fury", I consider Raymond Johnson's page-spanning, leggy red headed vixen here the greatest tail-lights cover ever.

Very Fine minus. Beautiful, square, glossy and smooth. Very fresh and white. Light bend to cover that doesn't break color. A spectacular copy.

Stag Stripper by Mike Avallone.   Midwood No. F132    $40  SOLD to Comical Situations

Gorgeous and rare Robert Maguire sleaze GGA cover. Smaller print runs at the sleaze publishers make the competition for these fierce and Midwoods are some of the toughest.

Fine/Fine Plus - Square, glossy copy with light surface wear and bends. Has a ding to right lower corner that created a crease that doesn't break color. Minor moisture stain to back lower corner. A nice presenting copy.

Hell's Angels by Hank Janson.  Gold Star IL7-16  1964        $45  SOLD to goldust40

An iconic Robert Maguire cover. Full length blonde Good Girl in yellow prison stripes with a classic blurb.  Of all his covers, this is the one Maguire's daughter used as the colophon for her website tribute to him.

Very Fine minus - Square, tight, unread feeling copy, only has some tiny color flecking, slight edgewear/blunting and toning to the interior covers. A beautiful copy of a top cover.
