If I wasn't going after a few other pieces, this one in specific stood out to me at a great price for the content. Kirby Krackle... Thor.. nice panels. Great pickup I agree.

The stupid automatic bias against any Colletta-inked Kirby probably hurt it. But, Colletta did a great job on this page.

I bought a great Freak Brothers page earlier this year (for much less) and love it.  Rather have it than the Crumb, and price will be something for my heirs to worry about.

Thor 1/2 face in one panel, 1/8 face in another, two space panels with no Thor + Colletta inks? This price is correct. Colletta does a nicer than normal job (for him) here, but the inks are nowhere close to those by Sinnott or Royer.

I have that bias too...sometimes (a lot, seemingly) it's valid. Not on this one tho!

I would go back in time and murder Colletta in the crib, but I also thought this went low. Two space panels? That's a PLUS

I’ll chime in from a newer or modern collector point of view.
 

1. Liefeld Captain America - while this cover is used often to try to knock down Liefeld he has a great sense of humor about it. In my opinion, this is one of the top 5 memorable pieces from Rob (whether good or bad).  When I think of Liefeld I think of the following: New Mutants 87, New Mutants 98, New Mutants 100, X-Force 1, and Cap’s Boobs. If there were a Liefeld exhibit, this is one I’d want to see in-person just because of how prominent it has become on social media. Obviously it has been blasted a million times over, but we all know this piece. 

2. Invincible - some of the comments in the thread are clear indicators many collectors stopped reading in the 80s/90s. This is not a knock, but just a reality. I personally look at BWS Conan like many here look at Invincible. That said, this is one of the most relevant, modern pieces in the auction from my perspective. Created by Robert Kirkman (Walking Dead), the series was adapted as an animated series for Amazon Prime and has been wildly popular. Walking Dead, The Boys, and Invincible were all massive successes for mainstream culture. The page today that went for over $30k was arguably the best in the first issue for reasons previously posted by others. To put it into perspective, a 9.8 graded copy of Invincible #1 sells for mid $3k range in today’s market, so the best original page from this highly desirable issue at a multiple of 10x isn’t unreasonable.

I’m not trying to start a debate on comparing comics to OA but it would be foolish to deny any correlation, especially on the modern front where new entrants into the market largely migrate from books to art. Also, I didn’t win the page myself but sure wish I owned it.

It had to be the detail level. Comparing it to other Foster's they've auctioned before it was short on a real depth of inks and backgrounds. 

I'm a huge Foster fan of both his Tarzan and Prince Valiant work, but the subject matter of this piece just wasn't that interesting to me.

The prices for Frazetta detritus in this auction were really strong.  In some cases, the gap with his published pieces wasn't that big.
