These are the ASM issues that I cracked out.

Im downsizing my graded book collection and trying to go about 90% raw.

None of these books came out after 1986.

They all should have had micro chamber paper.  (tsk)

Im guessing my 194, 252 and 238 probably dont have micro chamber paper either, based on these results.

Thats not good.

Terrible.

How long ago were they slabbed?

I don't mind the rise in prices near as much as the drop in quality service and care.

I don't mind rising prices either. What I hate is terrible customer service.

The cert #s should say if you do a cert lookup

Just curious how far back this glaring omission has been occurring.

Yeah, I know but Im not gonna look them all up. The cracked slabs/labels are in my basement in a box. I can say that all the labels are recent looking.

Today I cracked open 5 CGC slabs of bronze age Marvel books, so in addition to getting them into mylar with acid free and buffered backing boards I checked them for microchamber paper.

The grade dates were as follows:

  • 10/2018
  • 12/2021
  • 5/2023
  • 8/2023
  • 8/2023

Of the five, all had microchamber paper.  Two had two sheets while the remaining three had one sheet.  Those with two sheets had them placed between the first two and again between the last two interior pages.  Those with one had it placed either in the centerfold (1) or between the last two interior pages (2).

So while it's a very small sample, it demonstrates that CGC has not made a decision to uniformly leave out microchamber paper.  It suggests, instead, that most BA books, even submissions graded in August, were still being protected by microchamber paper.

Your mileage may vary, and I have no information for comics graded after this past August or any Copper Age books.

I just opened 2 silver-age slabs.

The first was graded on 9/22 and had no paper at all.

The second was graded on 1/23 and one sheet between the 1st and 2nd pages.

They were both low grade (3.5 & 4.0) so I wonder if that enters into it at all?

At this time, I have not been given anything to post here.

Not surprising. The CGC got caught with their pants down.

I hope the company can quickly turn back to secure packaging and proper long term preservation. Treat everyone's books like they are worth a million dollars.

Third and final chaser from me - perhaps someone else can take up the cause on behalf of the community if no response comes?

@CGC Mike Mike, will CGC be providing an answer on this?

OK. CGC appear unwilling to explain the circumstances under which microchamber paper is used. Maybe I am misunderstanding this, but I always thought there was a general expectation in the community that the answer should be "at all times" - certainly for books of a certain age.

Read into it what you will.

Cracked an old label slab with a modern book inside last night.

ASM 348 CGC 9.8

slabbed in 2003

CGC #0041112005

This book had 2 pieces of paper inside.

One in the front cover and one in the back.

If this book had 2 pieces, its safe to say there was a time when all books got paper...that must have stopped at some point.

Isn't this false advertising? The CGC states on their website that all books receive microchamber paper, but they clearly do not.

False advertising is an actionable civil claim under Section 43(a) of the Lanham Act.

Grounds for a lawsuit?

1. The ads of the opposing party were false or misleading.
2. The ads deceived, or had the capacity to deceive consumers.
3. The deception had a material effect on purchasing decisions.
