According to Mike's grade distribution table, 88 players completed Round 4 (down from 109 at sign-up, 101 in Round 1, 98 in Round 2, and 94 in Round 3).  Here are the key measures of central tendency for this round (Mean = the average grade; Median = the middle grade in a numerically rank-ordered list; Mode = the most common grade):

The Board scored only 87 bulls-eyes in Round 4 (20% of all grades submitted, compared to 27% in Round 1, 26% in Round 2, and 21% in Round 3).  In terms of bulls-eyes, this was our weakest round.  :cry:  Here are a few other notable observations based on the data reported above:

  • Book #16 (Kid Komics #5):  One of the three most difficult books for the Board as a whole, with only 16% of the contestants at the same grade as CGC and only 43% within one grade increment of CGC.  Collectively, the Board was about one and one-half grade increments more critical than CGC (3.7 vs 4.5).  hm
  • Book #17 (Marvel Mystery Comics #43):  One of the two easiest books for the Board as a whole, with 25% of the contestants at the same grade as CGC and 63% within one grade increment of CGC.  Collectively, the Board agreed with CGC (3.0 vs 3.0).  (worship) (worship)
  • Book #18 (Pep Comics #6):  Another of the three most difficult books for the Board as a whole, with only 15% of the contestants at the same grade as CGC and only 43% within one grade increment of CGC.  This time the Board was about one and one-half grade increments more lenient than CGC (5.8 vs 5.0).  hm  hm
  • Book #19 (Punch Comics #10):  The last of the three most difficult books for the Board as a whole, with only 16% of the contestants at the same grade as CGC and 65% within one grade increment of CGC.  Nonetheless, collectively, the Board essentially agreed with CGC (4.4 vs 4.5).  (thumbsu

I updated the spreadsheet that I use to track cumulative contest results for cumulative contest rankings.

Congrats @Deputy Dan, I see that you have an average score of 22 over the 2 contests. The cumulative rankings thread I started has a minimum contests requirement = total contest / 2 - 0.25 = 8 / 2 - 0.25 = 3.75, so you don't have enough rounds to qualify for those rankings yet, but if you did, your average score would be good enough for the top 10!

Whoa, thanks guys! I've never been a top finisher in any of these contests, stretching all the way back to when Nik started them (2008 or so?), then through the Andy & Shin Green Eggs era, then Mike & CGC. I'm really stoked. :)
