I had a Golden Age book that I bought that was designated as a Slightly Brittle.  The person who bought it from me CPR'd it.  It went from a 2.5 to a 2.5 with Light Tan to OW pages.

However, I had a book CPR'd that went from a Light Tan- OW to a Cream to OW.

I have seen similar stories.

LT/Ow to straight OW on a Hulk 181 after a press (this is many years ago) for me.

Something weird.

On the pressing site, before and after examples, a 4.5 FF book, becomes a 5.0 book.

Both slabs are yellow. Signature is exactly the same.

The after slab is custom Stan label.

Cream OW becomes OW.  Not that big of a deal.

The weird thing is that the date Stan signed it changes from  11/23/2013, to  4/22/2017.

Probably a mistake?  Just seems very weird to be a mistake

Before  https://www.cgccomics.com/certlookup/1196041008/.

After  https://www.cgccomics.com/certlookup/1393257001/

Here's an example of why what I posted above may have been preferential treatment for pressingstation.com

This book has been currently listed by an ebay seller in New York. I'm almost positive that I've seen it before in the last few months, but I haven't spotted exactly where yet.

Notice that is was reholdered, but the Stan lee signature date did not change.

Dude, you need to start looking for nicer books :baiting:

I've always wondered why page quality on a sealed book is so vital.  A book with brittle pages that no one will ever read is worth so much less than a book with semi-brittle pages that no one will ever read

It sold on eBay, but the record says it can't be found when I click on the Verify Sale link (link here in case you can pull anything from it: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Amazing-Spider-Man-1-Marvel-Silver-Age-1963-CGC-3-0-Signed-Stan-Lee-/224616845442?mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&campid=5338927601&customid=2a485e5c-62b3-4ec9-92a7-298a4e34dc73&toolid=10001&gck=2a485e5c-62b3-4ec9-92a7-298a4e34dc73)

Because sometimes brittle can be SO brittle that I have seen flakes floating around in the encasement.

People who buy books with brittle pages might appreciate the flakes.

I once owned a Feature Book NN ( Tracy) that was so brittle, you could barely touch it without the pages turning to dust. It really couldn't be read, but would have looked great in a CGC holder. That was probably the only way to preserve and enjoy it.

HA!

That's probably the account associated with Kevin Smith's store if it is located in Red Bank.

Thanks for checking! No way of knowing how that seller bought it I guess, but NYCC certainly seems feasible.

I don't know how many times it changed hands, plus 2021 was so nuts. That cert #, never appears in GPA that I've found.

On February 14, 2021, a blue label 3.0 sold for around $6,500, not a yellow SS copy. By the end of 2021, blue label 3.0s were selling for as much as this yellow did. @ $16K.

Then, it's not quite the same pittance that it used to be.

My thought is, if the custom/yellow label reholder was always available to be compromised, maybe that explains so many of the "Stan Lee signed back covers" we see with this seller.

Who knows if somehow, that yellow label 3.0 had its origins, just as an example, as this book, a 2.0 from 2011.

https://www.cgccomics.com/certlookup/1794610002/    Blue label 2.0 "Stan lee written on cover" grade date 6/20/2011.

I can't find that one ever being sold after 2012 ($2,385) on GPA.

If signing dates, and certification dates can be screwed around with at some big shot's whim,, who the F knows?

The same ebay seller currently offering the ASM #1, yellow 3.0, in NY, Sleeping Giant, is also offering a yellow 5.0 FF #1, reholdered recently with a grade date in 2015, that I can find no history of selling at that grade on GPA. Signed by Stan date and graded date are 2 days apart in 2015.  https://www.cgccomics.com/certlookup/1184333001/

I did find a couple of much earlier, lower graded copies, that have had no recent sales, and one of the certs has been cleared and is gone.

This 4.0, coincidently (as the ASM #1 3.0 was ) last sold in  2011.

I guess it's feasible as a coincidence that an ebay seller in Tonawanda, New York is selling about 8 yellow label reholdered keys right now.

hm

FF 1, ASM 1, Daredevil 1, Avengers 1, TOS 38, ST 101, Hulk 181. etc.
