eBay resizing externally hosted images???

26 posts in this topic

How are you imbedding your images? I don't see how this could be happening if you are using "<img src>" HMTL in your item description field to acquire an external image. If you are, the image is just a file sitting on a server somwhere that the shopper's browser accesses as part of loading the page. Ebay doesn't have anything to do with it (aside from holding the HTML as part of your listing). It could have something to do with the host service you are using for your images however. I believe that some of the free services (Photobucket, etc.) do resize images down to a certain file size. The only other thing I can think of is that some browsers like IE have a setting that automatically resizes images to fit on the screen. Maybe this got turned on without your knowledge and you need to reset it. Hope this helps.

Edit:

I just took a look at one of your auctions, and I see what you are talking about. I also came across this in someone else's auction I was browsing last night. I know that if you are creating your listing with Turbo Lister, there is a way of resizing uploaded Gallery pictures (within the Design layout). Might toy around with this. Or, this might be a glitch with Ebay's processing of the images during upload? Were they proportioned properly when the auctions lauched?

For some reason, eBay is resizing all my externally hosted images in my listings to 300x400. They weren't doing this yesterday. Did they do this to everyone or is it just me?

The bunch of 893censored-thumb.gif wankers!

Yup...all of mine. 192 auctions... 893censored-thumb.gif screwed!

Anyone know how and where to complain about this???

Place a link to the URL with the large scan in your auction.

Using Ebay TurboLister it will auto-check "optimize for web" if you "host you own images". You have to manually uncheck it to prevent the image resizing.

I'm sorry--the time to have added this feature was 5+ years ago when dial up was primarily used. Although I'm sure there are still lots of people on dial up still, doing it now just seems like a pointless exercise.

Are you volunteering to change all 300 of mine? These auctions were displaying fine yesterday. I'm serious. eBay did something.

I was offering a work around if someone had a big dollar book up that really needed a large scan.

eBay sucks if they are editing your auctions. mad.gif

For what it's worth, I've just rattled this off to eBay 'Customer Service'... yeahok.gif

'Here are 10 examples from a possible 192! The images for these auctions have been resized since they were listed on Sunday. I use the services of Photobucket to host my auction images and at their end, the images remain as they should...and as they were when the auctions started on Sunday. However, eBay has sometime yesterday changed the image format and the images have now been shrunk and warped in their dimensions. I sell comics and one of the prime factors in final value is the technical condition of the item, or grade as it is known in the hobby. Previously, my images were large and very detailed, allowing buyers to gauge condition and bid accordingly. Now the images are useless and worthless and I am having to consider pulling every single one of the 192 auctions, as these items are now going to sell for way under market value. Basically, my auctions are now ruined. Please tell me how this happened and what you are going to do to fix the problem in the shortest possible time. Thank you.'

I know, I know....I've just wasted 10 minutes of my life sending this, but what else can I do? confused-smiley-013.gif

I saw this today as I was browsing. I found the "properties" of each image and pasted the path into a seperate browser where there wouldn't be any resizing.

It slowed me down, but I managed. However, the average guy won't like to take the time to do that, and I could see where this could cost people in sales.

Say a guy has one free hour a night to browse E-bay. He spends longer amounts of time looking through auctions (and double-checking images into a spare browser) when all of a sudden his time online has ended. He shuts off the computer, and yet if he'd have remained online, the very next auction was one of yours. 893whatthe.gif
