All-American #16 and Tec #27 on eBay!!!

... that's the only big GA key I've ever have or ever will own.

You don't really expect me to believe that, do you? 893naughty-thumb.gif You'll run out of awesome HG lower tier books at some point, then all your OA will be in piles too big for you to sift through and you'll break down and buy something. I'd peg you as a AA 16, Adv 40, or Marvel #1 guy, but I could be wrong. sumo.gif

I figure you're mostly kidding here, but just in case, I'll answer seriously. I decided about 10 years ago that I would avoid #1s and keys as they cost more and provide less satisfaction than a stack of stuff. When there are still great books out like War 11, who needs Action 1?

Oh stop being sensible poke2.gif You know you want a nice juicy DC key as an "investment". Just look in your OS guide at the Metropolis Index . It's a clear sign that your collection is incomplete and you can't be happy without HG keys.

BTW, what's your War 11 like, I just picked up another one (VG, but pretty nice other than the spine). Tell Bob he owes me a piece of my soul back. sorry.gif

Ah, how my thread has flourished since I changed the title to something attention-grabbing.

I for one am more interested in the Tec #1 that just got listed.

And I know the qualified grade confuses some people, but I had no idea that it was this confusing. There's no possible way a coverless book should receive a qualified grade. It's the very definition of a PR .5 book. If a book is the very definition of its grade then there's nothing anomalous about it at all. If there's nothing anomalous about it, then there's no need to even consider the qualified grade.

A blue label for missing centerfolds right? You also get a green for that. If it is just because of the cover missing I can understand just the blue label at .5. But why is a centerfold missing any different than a cover. I am curious about this.

Because it's the cover and the cover is the most important part of a collectible comic book. confused-smiley-013.gif

Here's how I would describe two hypothetical PRs:

Action 48. PR. Missing Centerfold. Affects story. Would be VF+.

Action 48 PR. Coverless. <= there is no "would be" because there's no cover to grade. After "Coverless", there's no more story to tell.

The "would be" is where the Qualified grade might come in.

This book sold in 2003 for $6785. The BIN of $7500 seems like a fair price.

I'm on the phone with him now and he just said "You ain't never gonna never get it". Then he said you'll have to break the rigor mortis on his fingers to get back.

BTW, he says thanks. :foryou

If I had the money right now, it would be a simple hit the BIN. Some of those Pre-Bat 'Tecs are rare and this one takes the care. So, even a restored copy is quite valuable. Well, there are other Tecs to buy, I suppose. sigh

There is no such thing as a qualified poor Timulty.

Ever hear of a Qualified piece of 893censored-thumb.gif ?

A piece of 893censored-thumb.gif is a piece of 893censored-thumb.gif .

I thought the price was reasonable as well. It's below Overstreet GD price, which is probably what the comic was before restoration. Besides, how often do you see a nice looking copy of Tec #1 come up for sale?

Not only that, but it's hard as HELL to get a book with extensive restoration into high grade. How many ER books do you see sporting 9.0 or better labels? My guess is that this book looks significantly better than a 7.0 in hand. If I had 8K to drop I would buy this in a heartbeat. Nice PQ, gorgeous eye appeal, and one of the coolest covers of the golden age....not to mention a key of keys.

I'll do that! thumbsup2.gif

But I don't think you can expect him to set up that arrangement any time soon.

Strange. Rather than hitting the BIN, someone put in a bid of $7499. Anyone know who mithrophon is? He/she has good feedback.

this book is just so gorgeous - let's save a copy of the big scan of it on these boards for future viewers.

for anyone considering purchasing a "big-ticket" item, while warrantying them against a possible future decline in prices - this book is the one to get. it has good appeal, it's restored (so less than GD price), it's uber-rare, and i think it's a book ANY_COLLECTOR would be proud to own (so it's a buy-what-u-like). great book.

There was no Buy It Now on the book. Just a $7499 starting bid.
