Hey guys and gal,

I was trying to get the war sale up for tonight, but work got nutty and I'm only halfway through the scanning... I'm now aiming for Sunday. Sorry 'bout dat. I'll post lots of heads up here in the thread beforehand.

A couple of Atlas war books -- not high enough grade for anyone to slobber over, but it wouldn't lower the grades if you did!

Battle Ground 13 1956, classic Heath cover.

Battlefront 47 1957, possible Kida cover according to the Atlas Tales site. I'm not complaining about the condition for under $2.

is it just me or does this soldier resemble Edward Norton? hm

Actually it's most likely based on a picture of Russ.

I'll second that.

Hey, 50% of the Heath faces were Russ's own face. Or at least 49%. . .and there's a 28% chance of that!

Sounds good to have a few War Book sales around here. (thumbs u

My haul from Brent's latest auctions arrived today. :cloud9:

Picture687.jpg

The photo like the next one doesn't do the book justice with bright beautiful

green colors and the # 79 has shiney yellow colors.

Picture690.jpg

Picture693.jpg

I couldn't be more pleased and although each book is around

Fine condition they look a lot nicer to me. That Brent gentleman

sure knows how to grade.

Thanks again Brent, (worship) (worship) (worship)

fay :foryou:

Sweet Grandenetti washtone. Man, he was good!!!!

Worship the #61 for the deep greens alone. Only DC did that! Tough book in grade. . .you might own one of the nicest in existence, Fay!!!

Now, you KNOW that the #79 is something I covet more than life itself. The Kubert interior--"What's the Price of a B-17?" is, in my mind, one of the finest and most exquisite examples of comic artwork and storytelling from ANY era. It's almost like what the art might look like if Kubert and Heath had an illegitimate love child. It has the elongated abstraction and grittiness of Kubert and photorealistic crosshatching goodness of Heath. They were both so friggin' good on their own, but once in a very blue moon, their art would look a bit like each others' and this is probably the best example EVER of that happening. Not a terribly difficult book to find except in VF or above. Then it's impossible.

I think it's one of the most reprinted stories in the war comics archives.

It's not really a key. . .but it IS (like so many other war books).

It's a non-key key!

Beeeeotchin!!!

Yeah, I had heard that this was Russ himself, I mean Ed wasn't even born when this drawing was made.

It was just an observation.

I mean, hey, he DOES look like Ed Norton...but maybe that's just me lol

Mick,

The books posted on this board make it awesome enough and to have

members like Shep, AdamStrange and yourself giving your analysis on

certain books and artists make it one of the best boards here IMO.

The 61 Brent only graded a 6.5 and it looks a lot nicer to me and I've

got to pull out that 79 and give it a read. I am really starting to appreciate

Grandenetti more and more like Adam suggested. Thanks for all the

information you guys share with us. (worship) (worship)
