I thought that was a lot for that copy of OAAW #123... to me, that's a $75 tops. Still, it was a pretty nice looking copy.

The one thing that was interesting to me, though, is that raw DC war from this era with great eye appeal are obviously still pulling well. And they seem to be making a better premium from trusted sellers than they have for a while.

My personal view is that CGC's grading on books of this era has really slipped in the past couple of years, and collectors are noticing. I saw a 6.0 on ebay recently of a book that I REALLY wanted, but the spine wear was so bad that I could never have called it a 6.0. So, I passed on it, and held out to find a strictly graded raw copy, which I did (and spent about twice what the slabbed copy went for).

So... is anyone else finding CGC's grading in the 6.0-8.0 range a little soft these days, or am I just being a bitch?

I don't think CGC's grading has been getting soft. That being said, I'd say that the Showcase #4 CGC 9.6 in Heritage's auction right now looks much lower than a 9.6.

Buying the book, not the grade is great advice, but seeing the CGC grade will definitely get you close to what you're expecting. Someone's raw grading may differ quite a lot from your own grading and that's where I see the usefulness of buying a CGC graded book. I've been disappointed so many times buying raw, yet I still find myself going back for more.

I dunno, Shep. Trust your instincts, buy what you like, all's fair in love and war comics....and all that jazz. (thumbs u

I was watching that one too, I would have rather thrown down another hundy and won the #83 that ended a day prior frankly.

I think its only going to be about a 3.5 - 4.0 though?

Nice pick-up!!

I used to have one and in a week of stupidity sold off my entire

OAAW collection. I now have over 75 issues replaced in little more

than a year, but not that one. :(:sorry:

Hey guys & gals, Thanks for all the positives. I would still love to score a 5.5 to 6.5 copy though so keep me in mind if one pops up.

Oh it feels so good to have my car problems behind me and back

to buying books again. :cloud9:

I've had three copies of this classic book with an awesome Russ

Heath cover and this one is a keeper. :luhv:

:) So it was the Motor City Comic-con this weekend and my good

friend Rob or board member RobtotheC who I met from e-bay very

soon after I first started collecting sent me an e-mail about any books

to search for.

We've stayed in touch for three or four years and he taught me so

much about this hobby and I consider him a very very good friend. I

noticed Ted @ SuperWorld had a copy of OFF 94 in VF condition on

his site and I just casually mentioned it to my buddy Rob. ;)

He sends me an e-mail tonight and to say I'm a happy collector right

now is an understatement. :cloud9::acclaim::headbang::takeit:
