??? for all you paypal experts UPDATED ??

15 posts in this topic

I sold a few items for my wife. The winning bidder lives in Japan. He bought the item for his daughter that is located in Japan but different address. (Divorce)

He paid with paypal, his address is confirmed but his daughters isn't. He does have over 3000 feedback on ebay.

Am I looking for trouble or should I ship?

The guy has changed his story. Here is the company letter that comes to seller.

Rich, does his instructions tell you to ship to the other addy in the confirmation? Also, are you able to do delivery con or sig receipt on packages that are out of country?

I'm not even sure the best way to ship to Japan, Its a pretty big box.

Oh Calling Sheradon any info on shipping a large box ( about the size of 4 short boxes stacked 2 high 2 wide) to Japan. He wants it Air so it gets there faster. Who should I use? And do they have delivery confirmation or sig required?

Make sure to measure the box. There are size restrictions:

b. Maximum length: 60 inches

Maximum length and girth combined: 108 inches

Azerbaijan

Great Britain and Northern Ireland

Japan

Macao

Marshall Islands, Republic of the

Micronesia, Federated States of

New Zealand

Japan is one of the few countries with a slightly larger size allowance, but you will want to make sure you are within this size.

If you are shipping straight to a Japan address and not and FPO, then yes it will be very expensive. I always had the luxury of the FPO, so my shipping costs were tied to a California zip code.

As to the confirmed address part. I guess it's probably smart to ship to a confirmed address, but I can't tell you how many times I've shipped to unconfirmed addresses and haven't been burned by it yet.

I thought foriegn users came up unconfirmed anyways? I know before I added my FPO address to my confirmed Paypal, I asked some sellers if they could send my winnings to my FPO as I was away over seas and they complied. I guess they were taking a risk, but sometimes a request like that is legitimate, so it's sort of a judgement call for you to make. If this is a high dollar transaction, you may want to protect yourself by sending it straight to the confirmed address and politely explain why you have to do it that way.

Here's what I would do:

Find out how much the shipping costs for both methods your winning bidder requested.

Let them know how much the total would be for either method.

Request that they send you an international money order. That way you avoid the issue of cash going through the mail and you have none of the PayPal headaches of sending an item to a "nonverified" address.

Wait however long it takes for the MO to get to you.

Have your bank/post office try to verify if the MO is valid.

Send the item...

(I sold a 1960's ladies Omega watch for a neighbor last year ($600+) to a woman who lived in Japan. Between the two of us, the PayPal hoops were just too much bother. The international MO is one easy way of getting paid - especially because the Western Union/Bidpay offering is no longer available.)
