Unfortunately, I no longer own this book. A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, I was a comic dealer at local shows and on eBay. I had a lot of great books pass through my hands (like Batman #1, many early GA superhero books and almost every Marvel SA key). This was when CGC was just several years old and key comics were MUCH less expensive than today. I know that I've had at least 10 copies of ASM #1 in various grades along with some coverless ones and a lot of single pages.

At different times, I had CGC graded copies as high as CGC 7.0, 7.5 and 8.0. The 8.0 is pictured here. I actually sold it (for very little profit, of course ) because I was worried the rust on the staples would progress and stain the book. I'm now looking for the right opportunity to get another one, but I wish I had a DeLorean that could take me back to that time when copies were abundant and cheap compared to today. Looking forward to seeing your #1s.

While we're here....  here is my ASM #1 GRR.  It's in really nice shape too.  I got this before my "real" #1 because I wasn't sure if I'd ever get one of those.  In any case I'm glad I snagged this!  Back then this was very affordable and collectors seemed to only want the set.  

When I got this off ebay the seller even included this grading scale that he used and I kept it with the book.  

Also, I'm scanning a stack on my ungraded ASM's for this little endeavor, so please forgive me for not removing them from mylars!

Here's the copy that sat at MCS for some time. I rolled the dice. I resubmitted with the request to verify this is in fact a US copy, and they said it is. Naturally, I still have doubts, but it would have to be cracked under very controlled conditions to save my bacon in case it turns out they don't know how to tell the difference between US and Pence without the 12c on the cover.

It would likely get a higher grade with a green label, but with such obvious 'defects' on the cover, I don't know. I always understood the green label being for not-so-obvious defects.

Not that I'm thinking of doing that. A green label on this would look silly.
