ABSTRACT STUDIOS: TERRY MOORE & ROBYN MOORE to the 2007 Paradise Comicon in Toronto, Canada on June 8-10, 2007.

The first issue of Strangers In Paradise was published by Antarctic Press in November 1993. It was the first comic book ever drawn by Terry Moore.

Moore had conceived of the idea for SIP while trying to develop a comic strip for newspaper syndication. After repeated failures, Moore visited a comic book store and discovered the new wave of small press publishers enjoying success in the comic book field. He spent a year researching the comic book business while writing and drawing the first issue of his story.

Borrowing a title from an old Tony Bennett hit, Moore submitted copies of his comic to a number of publishers before agreeing to a three issue mini-series with Antarctic.

After the mini-series, Moore launched his own imprint, Abstract Studio, and began self-publishing a regular Strangers In Paradise series beginning with a new issue one in September of 1994. In 1996 Strangers In Paradise won the Eisner Award for Best Continuing Series based on the strength of issues one through eight, the story arc found in the I Dream Of You trade paperback.

Moore joined forces with Jim Lee, Kurt Busiek and James Robinson later in 1996 to launch a new imprint, Homage Comics. SIP began a new Strangers In Paradise story arc for the occasion, with a new number one issue and full color. Moore released eight issues of SIP through Homage before returning to his own imprint to continue the series.

Today, Strangers In Paradise is read worldwide and has been reprinted in seven languages. Moore continues to write, draw and ink every issue personally, publishing a new issue of SIP every six weeks.

Moore's goals for the future include an extensive library of SIP stories, an SIP novel and, yes, a syndicated comic strip.

All good things must come to an end though, and at the beginning of 2006, Moore announced that the series will be ending in May 2007 with issue #90.

We hope you'll come and see Terry and Robyn at the Paradise Comicon in June 2007 to congratulate them on the completion of Strangers in Paradise!

Abstract Studios Managing Editor Robyn Moore will participating in the WOMEN OF COMICS II Symposium on Saturday, June 9th. www.womenofcomics.com

Tara McPherson is a painter, poster artist and freelance illustrator based out of New York City. Creating art about people and their odd ways, her characters seem to exude an idealized innocence with a glimpse of hard earned wisdom in their eyes. Recalling many issues from childhood and good old life experience, she creates images that are thought provoking and seductive. People and their relationships are a central theme throughout her work.

Tara's array of art includes painted comics and covers for Vertigo DC, advertising and editorial illustrations for companies such as Fanta and Spin Magazine, and numerous gig posters for rock bands such as Green Day, Modest Mouse and Death Cab For Cutie. She also has exhibited her paintings and prints in fine art galleries all over the world.

Currently she is working on a painted graphic novel for DC Vertigo Comics (scheduled for a 2007 release), painting for private commissions and gallery exhibitions, designing a new line of toys for Kid Robot based on her characters, and teaches a Concept Illustration class at Parsons in NYC.

McPherson's art has been included in books such as The Art of Modern Rock (Chronicle), SWAG (Abrams), SWAG 2 (Abrams), Project Superior (Adhouse), The Art of Electric Frankenstein (Dark Horse), Sci Fi Western (Last Gasp), Panda Meat (Last Gasp) and Illustration Now! (Taschen). Upcoming books include "Lonely Heart: The Art of Tara McPherson" (Dark Horse Press).

Her recent merchandising projects have been a Lonely Heart Stationery Set (Dark Horse Comics), a Dunny (Kid Robot), a Qee (OX-OP/Toy2R), a Squert (Jamungo), two Circus Punks, a sticker line (Poster Pop) and her own line of self published merchandise.

Tara was born in San Francisco in 1976 and raised in Los Angeles. She received her BFA from Art Center in Pasadena, CA in August 2001 with honors in Illustration and a minor in Fine Art. She interned at Rough Draft Studios, working on Matt Groening's "Futurama" during college.

She has been featured and/or interviewed by Juxtapoz, Magnet, Spin, Current TV, CBC Radio, Super7, Paste, Communication Arts, International Tattoo Art, AIGA, Atomica, LA Weekly, DC Comics, Punk Planet, Savage Tattoo and many more. Her posters have been featured in set designs on various films and television shows such as MGM's Sleepover, UPN's Veronica Mars and Fox's Point Pleasant. She also won the Communication Arts 2005 Award of Excellence for her painted covers for Vertigo Comics.

Some of her clients include DC Comics, Warner Brothers, Dark Horse Comics, Spin, Fanta, Goldenvoice, Knitting Factory, Playstation 2/Harmonix, House of Blues, Atomica Magazine, Punk Planet, Dogfish Head Brewery, Nike/Wyden & Kennedy, and Nederlander Concerts.

Bernie would be a great guest and we'd love to have him up and he has expessed interest - it all depends on his schedule. Kris' comment is very confusing to me, Bernie has done a few shows this last year (Dallas, Maine, San Diego and in a few weeks he'll be in NYC).

Anyway, this is the first chance I've had to log in since Thursday. I had to spend time in the hospital from a serious allergic reaction that nearly killed me. I'll be back on regularly next week with some more show updates for the big Paradise Comicon and the upcoming Toronto Comic Book Fan SuperShow on November 19th.
