Do you outbid fellow forum members? Or do you lay off?

I don't even notice - I usually set a snipe and forget about it.

ditto; I've sent some "sorry about the snipe" emails after the fact. Or if my snipe drove it up in the forumite... unintentionally of course

Same.

I wouldn't even notice who I'm bidding against. I do alert fellow board members who I KNOW are after the same books as I am, so we don't drive prices up.

I think thats the best policy....but then what if it's board member selling! foreheadslap.gif

I don't usually bother even looking at who else is bidding on a book - if it's a book I want at a price I'm willing to pay, I bid. However, I usually bid via snipe software anyway, so it's pretty much a moot point.

Also, as others have noted above, collusion between potential bidders to artificially keep a price of a book below FMV is sort of like shill bidding.

Same here.

Was this thread really necessary, Divad?

Actually, yes, in that in put a lot of different opinions out there. Although most posters swayed from the original premise and didn't read anything beyond the re line . . .so what else is new around here? confused-smiley-013.gif

I know what I would do in the instant situation, and I hope others would have enough sense to do the same. It's just bad manners. But like I said earlier, recognizing Board friendship is more important than any comic book . . . hi.gif

Now let me go edit my earlier post, and trash that Hulk 181 you bought devil.gif

What are you talking about? Are you really starting a thread to whine about another board member outbidding you on a $10 book? screwy.gif

Bidding on an item before the end of the auction is ridiculous as well.

In a normal auction, EVERY bid is potentially the end of the auction.

Every time bid is placed, the bidder is hoping to hear "going once, twice, sold!"

Ebay just tells you the exact time of the word "sold!"

If you want it, bid, and if you don't want to be outbid, then bid late...

if you don't want to be sitting at the computer in order to bid late, then set a snipe.

Bidding early is like yelling,

"Hey! That looks good! And BOY, look at that price!

Wow, I can't wait to beat all you guys on this one!

Too bad they're only selling this one! I'm awesome!"

Of course you get outbid. Nitwits. stooges.gif

I agree wholeheartedly about this (especially as it justifies sniping grin.gif), although there are exceptions - when an ebay BSD, who is known for winning almost every auction he bids on, throws down a knockout bid early on in the auction. I've seen that happen, and have noticed that it does put off other bidders, at least to a certain extent.

There are knockout bidders out there...and I have won a few things from them, because I was willing to pay more....I just had to pony up for the items I wanted.

No cheap 1/3 to 1/2 guide on those items boo.gif

Yeah, it's really tough to get a great deal on certain GA books when they only show up once in a blue moon.

But like I said earlier, recognizing Board friendship is more important than any comic book . .

I really don't understand what this has to do with "friendship". So what if two friends (or even "board friends") want the same book? Just bid on the damned thing. I'd rather lose it to a friend than a stranger. But this "Oh, let me know before you bid. How could you outbid me?" thing is ridiculous, and, to be honest, strikes me as belonging in the grammar school playground.

And JC - you should have stuck to your usual outspokeness instead of whimping out with a "I set it and forget it". It would be interesting to see your take on the actual question.

PS - when I was collecting I lost occasionally, to other forum members. Was glad to see them get it.

Not whining at all, and not screwy.gif My point was precisely that. It was a freaking $7 book fergawdsakes. insane.gif

The thread (as usual) has a life of it's own grin.gif

Actually you are whining.

I see no problem in bidding against a boardmember as long as you're honestly willing to pay what you bid (i.e.not just shilling up the price). I've been outbid by boardmembers and had no complaints. I've also had my final bid doubled (to the tune of about $250) by a boardmember and I PM'ed him and we laughed about it.

If you wanted the book so much, then bid more - otherwise shut your piehole.

And crying about it here before giving Andy a fair shake is far worse than what he did.
