Thats some bizarre list.

Duane is rated second all-time,yet fourth in his decade?

Robert Johnson, who never played an electric guitar, ranked top 5?

and Jhonny Ramone listed as a top guitarists?Thats got to be an inside joke.

John knew four chords. He could play the *spoon* out of them, but to rank him above Warren Haynes,David Gilmour and the like?

the By Decade list isn't in any order, it just lists some of the best by decade.

I realize that the majority here are Rock fans, and I myself am a huge LZ fan, but if this subject of guitarist were expanded beyond rock for a few minutes I would think Chet Atkins and Les Paul would be higher up on the list.

Course I wouldn't argue against Hendrix, Eddie Van H. and Page getting the top spots.

I personally think Bo Diddley has been overrated throughout the years.

I personally think Bo Diddley has been overrated throughout the years.

hearing that reminds me I need to watch this flick again

(it's that time of year for my yearly viewing)

Bo (the pawn king): Burnt my fingers, man.

Winthorpe: I beg your pardon?

Bo: Man, that watch is so hot, its smokin'.

Winthorpe: Hot? Do you mean to imply stolen?

Bo: I'll give you 50 bucks for it.

Winthorpe: Fifty bucks? No, no, no. This is a Rouchefoucauld. The thinnest water-resistant watch in the world. Singularly unique, sculptured in design, hand-crafted in Switzerland, and water resistant to three atmospheres. This is *the* sports watch of the '80s. Six thousand, nine hundred and fifty five dollars retail!

Pawnbroker: You got a receipt?

Winthorpe: Look, it tells time simultaneously in Monte Carlo, Beverly Hills, London, Paris, Rome, and Gstaad.

Bo: In Philadelphia, it's worth "50" bucks.

#54 On this list is the great Doc Watson. He was born/raised/lives in the same small area where I was raised in the mountains of North Carolina. The town of Wilkesboro has a yearly festival called Merlefest, named in honor of Doc's son Merle who was killed in a farming accident. Performers from all over the world come to my small hometown for this festival and it draws thousands. I have had the privelege to go several times and you will not see a more intimate festival atmosphere anywhere. Doc is getting really old and doesn't perform very often, plus his blindness limits how much he wants to travel, but he is a true American treasure. Also he invented the style of playing called "flatpicking"

The greatest guitar player in my life was a dude named Kenny Vidmar, who played in the band "Apogee" at my high school wayyyyy the hell back in 1980 or so. He was about 3 years older than I was, and was the first guitar player I ever saw in a live band, rocking the hell out of a cheapie red Japanese double-cut LP copy (Ibanez maybe). Apogee played one of our freshmen mixer dances in the gym that year, and tore through a whole lotta ROCK, including AC/DC's "Highway to Hell" and "Problem Child", Led Zep's "Hot Dog", "Brown Sugar" and a few other Stones chestnuts, a bunch of Grand Funk tunes, some Foreigner, "Rock and Roll All Night" (of course!), and even a little early new wave if I remember correctly.

My buddies and I started our first band within a few weeks of seeing those guys; It was a great time to "discover" rock and roll, and I'll never forget it.

That was 26 years ago, and I've been playing guitar (badly) in rock and roll bands ever since...
