I can see you all are having difficulty with this.

 

Here is another quote from the same individual:

 

"I have sometimes indulged in the fantasy that I am at the

gate of Heaven. St. Peter questions me about what good

I have done on earth. I reply proudly that I have read and

analyzed thousands of comic books--a horrible task and

really a labor of love."

It is indeed the esteemed psychiatrist, Dr. Frederic Wertham,

author of the infamous book "Seduction of the Innocent" (1953).

 

If it took longer, I was planning on dragging out the following

quotes from SOTI:

 

"...the basic ingredients of the most numerous and widely

read comic books [are]: violence, sadism and cruelty.." (p. 15)

 

and:

 

"Comic books stimulate children sexually" (p. 175).

 

Reading SOTI is a little disturbing, because many of Wertham's

arguments have some truth in them.

 

However where he really goes overboard is the hilarious section

where he claims that reading Batman comics turns young men

into homosexuals, eg.

 

"Robin is a handsome ephebic boy, usually shown in his uniform

with bare legs. He is buoyant with energy and devoted to nothing

on earth or in interplanetary space as much as to Bruce Wayne. He

often stands with his legs spread, the genital region discreetly

evident" (p. 191).

 

"The Batman type of story my stimulate children to homosexual

fantasies..." (p. 191)

 

Can you guess what he said about Wonder Woman?

...I think Wertham's exact quote with regard to Wonder Woman was, "I'd like to bang her in the back of my '48 Ford, after swapping outfits."

It is obvious that she is drawn only for the pure sexual satisafaction of fanboys everywhere. As we all know....if she was a real amazon she would only have one breast.

The derivation of the word "Amazon" is actually "a-masos"-- meaning "without a breast." (Because, as legend would have it, the Amazons would lop off a hoot so as to improve their archery skills. Dang snubes get in the way when you're drawing your bow, y'know?)
