NY CON PART2

21 posts in this topic

Just to finish up on my review of the NYC comic Con. I went looking for one thing and found another. Since my chance encounter with Stan yay.gif I decided that today was the day to get my piece of the Holy Grail. At the Silver Age booth I saw a reasonably priced Fantastic Four #1. Looks great, the right price, but it was a lot of $$$. ( I was thinking of buying more books with my EBAY $$$ I recently acquired by selling off some of my books so money was not really a huge issue) So after making the rounds. The other books were either over price and way out in space. So with my heart pounding, clutching my PAYPAL credit card I went back. Checked out carefully. Graded a 2.0, complete, off-white to tan pages, cover firmly attached, marvel chipping, and no apparent restoration that I could spot with the naked eye I made the purchase with a wave of euphoria

I immediately decided that I could not take this home, something might happen to it so I sprinted to the CGC booth who could send my book on it’s way to final encapsulation. 893crossfingers-thumb.gif

There I met Steve what a fine gentlemen I introduced myself ( only real claim to fame right now is the CELEBRATION TO DOUBLE COVERS ) and had the obligatory picture taken

With my Holy Grail in safe hands my buddy and I had one final goal. We wanted to see Stan in the Gang in the '60's bullpen breakout.

So off we went geting there early and front row seats. At 4pm Joe Sinnot and Gene Colan arrived 893applaud-thumb.gif

Great report, Webhead. The show was a total blast. The lines were long but they moved really fast. Steve is a really nice guy and fun to talk with. I suggest next time you come to the forum dinner. It is without a doubt the highlight of the weekend.

I hate that % off wall books game (scam). Not pointing a finger at this seller, because I wasn't there. But, there are two guys at Chicago every year, one in particular who have their 50% off wall books sign up on opeing day. The books are 100% overpriced and overgraded, so even with discount you still get hosed.
