Apotheosis
And here we have the lowest grade GA I have ever bought... and I couldn't be happier about it. I've loved this cover since I first "discovered" GA (that should read: When I took my first hit off the GA Crack pipe), but assumed I would never have one. Well now I do. She's a beater (maybe I should put it in that thread ), but I haven't gotten that excited to pull a comic out of the shipping box in a seriously long time. Question for those of you who may know... is this a book that could be restored? I know that there's a certain level that Matt says is too low to restore, but I don't know if this qualifies. Great pick up! It may be low grade, but still has good eye appeal - it's got some fading, but the FC is all there and let's face it, that's what's this book is all about. As for resto, you could see about getting the spine roll pressed out, but I'm not sure I would bother with anything else. Great book!
Theagenes
This should give you an idea of how it would look if you removed the spine roll - not bad, not bad at all.
buttock
It's been a good 2007 so far... Here is a slightly better scan that captures the colors a little more accurately. That's a great book you have there. I wish I'd had the cash or trade bait to pry it out of Win's hands after he upgraded, but alas, I had neither. At least it went to a good home. Who needs cash or trade. I just pointed a gun at him.

I can't see anything that restoration would really be able to improve for a reasonable cost. In the end you'd end up with a frankenbook. Keep it "vintage". That is one AMAZING cover And i would be of the opinion that you should keep it as it is, no resto on this one. But i am always of that opinion... spillred
I recently picked up this Real Life Comics #27 (Jan 1946) D copy. Although I love Schomburg covers, I don't usually pick up his Real Life books, however this one interested me because of the early Atomic Bomb reference. I decided to crack it open from the CGC case (also a first) so I could read the Atom Bomb story. Two things I have learned from this experience 1) opening a CGC slab is a very nerve-wracking process, and 2) there's no Atom bomb story in the book -- only a reference to it on the inside front cover from the editor. CentaurMan
Wow, that's pretty amazing that a cover so prominently featuring atomic bomb research would in fact have no atomic bomb related stories inside. I bet the Real Life Comics message board was furious about this. As for cracking slabs, while I've freed 50+ books, in reality I've personally done it zero times. My buddies october and PedigreeMan (both of whom live very close by) come over for slab-cracking parties. I supply the beer and a constant stream of "Be careful! For the love of God, that's a Church book! Be careful!" comments, while they say "Oops!" every so often just to make me jump. Good times.

I can't think of anything more fun than cracking comics so valuable that a slip of the wrist would result in forfeiture of all my personal assets! selegue
Proving once again that Real Life sucks! Jack (and is NOT da bomb) I recently picked up this Real Life Comics #27 (Jan 1946) D copy. adamstrange
2) there's no Atom bomb story in the book -- only a reference to it on the inside front cover from the editor. Most annoying. I like the RL series because they usually have historical stories that match their cover.
