2007 collecting goals.....

48 posts in this topic

ok, we are part way into the year already, and the guide is imminently around the corner.

Just wondering what people have set themselves as collecting goals for 2007?

And what expectations do you have for those books.

Do you think you'll be able to locate them, afford them foreheadslap.gif, pay less than last year, pay more...ok, most likely.

Just your general thoughts on the state of play going into the rest of 2007.

Ok, for me, I'm keen to get a HG pedigreed copy of a 68' Marvel first issue.

All these books are really common thanks to the warehouse find, so a ped set's them apart. But even most ped's don't often measure up to the standard of the warehouse grades.

So likely it's a tall order.

And as for price, well it could be on par, but as usual, it's down to who else is in the market at the same time. And I think Cap #100, or Iron Man #1 will probably be out of the question -just on affordability.

Plan to get my grail, a nice midgrade DD #1(to be upgraded once I finish school etc.), noticed the price has been dropping a bit lately, so now is probably as good as it's going to get. main collecting goal is to find me a series to begin a high grade run on...I am planning on selling most of my collection that isn't part of a run or that isn't special to me to finance it.

Then, I can go from there and start a 9.4 or better run, might go with something like Iron Man or Green Lantern, as the runs are longer, and I would actually read them hehe.

AF #15 or JIM #83 juggle.gif

CGC graded 2.0 to 4.0 with good eye appeal, meaning with the major shortcomings being on the back cover and not the front. Always willing to pay over GPA for such a book.

Don't know if I'll be able to swing both, but here's to trying thumbsup2.gif

Good luck on the DD#1. I"ve always wanted a copy myself. The story of Matt Murdock staying in to do his studies rather than playing outside complements the early stories that Stan Lee tells about himself hearing kids play outside his parents' apartment -- but not being able to see them. (Raphael & Spurgeon, Stan Lee, p.4)

And though it seems that everyone and his brother had a hand in finishing Bill Everett's artwork for the first issue, it is great to see Everett's work in the Marvel Era.

I plan to continue my HG X-men upgrade, concentrating mostly on the reprints that i'm missing, a few SA upgrades (#3 9.4 893crossfingers-thumb.gif), and filling the large holes in my modern run. I'm also hoping to include a few pedigrees in those upgrades most notably Pac Coast, White Mountain and Green River. 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

Proabably 2 out of 3 of the most liquid books in the SA. Always in demand, and always selling no matter what the grade.

All I can say is best of luck!

That's half the reason I want the book so bad. Been reading DD for 18 years, and it's the only one I haven't read a real copy of, just the masterwork...or trade can't remember, but it was in color so confused-smiley-013.gif

Im looking to keep filling in the holes in my GL HG slabbed run. Would really like to have 75% of the Adams issues but dunno if that is going to happen. I would also really like to find a nice GL 11 and GL 52. Without paying an arm and a leg for them.

Would like to to add 10 or so issues to my Sgt. Fury 9.4 run.

I hope to finish my run of DD from 1-50 (see my sig) and I am always working on the complete Strange Tales run (1-188), but am at least 10 years away from completing it. Hopefully I can also add some decent, mid-grade, Atlas Everett covers as well.

I'm going to continue working on my SA Marvel Keys run. I ended last year with a bang (DD1) and started this year with a bang (Silver Surfer 1.) I really want to have picked up Iron Man 1 by the end of the year. And I'm hoping to grab that one up in F - FVF shape. His ToS first appearance would be nice too, but I think that's probably a tall order.

Otherwise, I might like to build up an SA DD run. I have #1 and #7 so the other issues should be comparatively cheap. Maybe focus on owning 1-30 or something.
