Cap & Mandi Travel To The Great White North

14 posts in this topic

Yep, the terrible twosome made the trip North for another fantastic journey through the land of snow, beavers, hockey and good beer.

Rather then just show the pics and be done with it, with the help of Wikipedia, I am going to explain the backround of each place to better educate those who think Canada is only comprised of the perviously mentioned booze, snow and beavers. flowerred.gif

The trip for the boys started out where I live in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, Canada which is part of the _Nova_Scotia'>Halifax Regional Municipality, Musician Matt Mays, international rugby player Morgan Williams, National Hockey League players Sidney Crosby and Joe DiPenta, former NHL player Cam Russell, Trailer Park Boys head writer and creator Mike Clattenburg and stars Robb Wells (Ricky) and JP Tremblay (Julian) all hail from Cole Harbour, Julian is actually a client at my office, real nice guy. To assist in the trip I have brought along my wonderfull girlfriend of 3 years, Nancy. You will see her at different times along the way helping out when she can. thumbsup2.gif

Our first stop was in _Nova_Scotia'>Cow Bay, Nova Scotia to visit the famous Cow Bay Moose

First up is a shot off the cliff at Cow Bay, in the backround you can see a tanker ship leaving the mouth of Halifax Harbour in the right of the picture, if you squint you can see in the left another ship even farther off, it was a clear day so as far as the eye could see would be about 15-20KM

It took some Hulk like strength to get Nancy and the boys on the Moose without it kicking me in the jimmy junk but I managed.

After we left Cow Bay we went down to the mouth of the harbour on the Dartmouth side, right under the Angus L. MacDonald bridge the first of two suspension bridges currently linking the Halifax Peninsula to Dartmouth across Halifax Harbour.

Shots in the day

cap&mandi3.jpg

Same shot at night

cap&mandi26.jpg

A shot from under the bridge in the day

cap&mandi5.jpg

and yes, I managed to sneak in a shot of my snazzy new Charger, I like to show it off. The same shot at night

cap&mandi27.jpg

So back to the day at hand.

Next it was off to the memorial for the Halifax Explosion , This was the largest artificial explosion until the first atomic bomb test explosion in 1945 and still ranks high among the largest artificial non-nuclear explosions.

Below is the memorial and a 1200 pound piece of the cannon that landed some 2 miles away from the explosions, yes it was a windy day and Cap is trying to run away as the memorial is in a rough section of Dartmouth, commonly called the "hood"

Next up is a trip to Citadel Hill Fortress , The current star-shaped fortress, or citadel, is formally known as Fort George and was completed in 1856, following 28 years of construction. This massive masonry-construction fort was designed to repel a land-based attack by United States forces 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

Below is from inside the fort, in the far distance you can see the bridge from the previous picture

From the other side

cap&mandi21.jpg

Once inside the fortress, Cap & Mandi couldn't help but play with all the cannons lying around, all that firepower made them feel strong and safe.

cap&mandi17.jpg

cap&mandi18.jpg

cap&mandi23.jpg

The above cannon is still shot at high noon everyday, and you can hear it from anywhere in the city.

The below show is from a cannon hole overlooking the mouth of the Halifax Harbour, funny thing about this is that when I straddled the cannon to take the shot, I forgot to pull up my jeans and and I ripped a massive hole in the crotch, not cool Christo_pull_hair.gif

cap&mandi19.jpg

Below from the opposite side of the fort where you can see the bridge in all it's glory. My office is just to the left of the glass building in the center of the photo, that's where I wreak havoc on the insurance world from.

cap&mandi22.jpg

That was it for that day because the next weekend Nancy and I had a trip planned to another province, New Brunswick as we had planned to attend Speed Sport East 2007 car show in the city of Moncton This was about a 3 hour drive from Halifax so we knew along the way that Nova Scotia was full of large Godzilla sized monsters, you'd think this was Japan or Texas

cap&mandi25.jpg

And that wasn't even the biggest lobster we had to fight off, the mother of all lobsters and a fisherman to boot was yet to come.

Along the way up to Moncton on the Trans Canada Highway we decided to stop in the Town Of Stewiacke , Stewiack is famous for being exactly half way between the equator and the North Pole, because of this the weather here is always wonky at best and there is always a chance we can be attacked by the giant wooly mammoth that roam these parts,

There he is off in the distance, also take note of Fred Flintstones car in the picture, rumor has it that he tried to run Wooly down and the Mammoth got annoyed and ate Fred, Pebbles and Bam Bam and raped Dino because he could.

cap&mandi7.jpg

Lucky for me I brought some midgets covered in peanut butter for him to play with and he allowed me to get real close so he could vogue for his picture

cap&mandi8.jpg

After that somewhat scary stop we were back on the road again but I had to pee so we stopped in _Nova_Scotia'>Oxford, Wild Blueberry Capitol Of Canada where we were pounced on by a wild blueberry looking for a fight

cap&mandi9.jpg

Lucky for me some welders were close by and they torched his *spoon* and turned him into 10,000 blueberry pies that I shipped off to Africa to feed the hungry, and Sally Struthers.

Back on the road and before we hit Moncton we took a quick detour up to Shediac, New Brunswick, Lobster Capitol Of The World , chances are that if you've ever eaten great lobster, this is where it came from. In Shediac I used to own a cottage on the beach before it was sold in my parents divorce so anytime I'm around I like to stop in. This visit wasn't so pleasent as I was attacked again by the biggest lobster you've ever seen along with the drunkest, most surly fisherman you've ever seen. Thankfully I explained what the story was behind Cap & Mandi and they were glad to pose for a photo and show some Maritime hospitality.

cap&mandi11.jpg

After that it was off to the car show, sadly at this point the camera was out of juice because someone forgot to charge it. blush.gif

So we headed back home later that night and stopped at one of my clients pizza joints for some good ole eats, Poutine for Nancy and a greasy old Donair for me, I guess in the States you would call a donair a "Gyro" but up here there are way different and very tasty, Cap & Mandi enjoyed the one they murdered because they never get fed.

cap&mandi29.jpg

cap&mandi28.jpg

And that ladies and gents was the trip up North. I had planned to get Steve McNiven to do something with Cap & Mandi but after all his hard work with Civil War he is on a much need vacation in Milan, when he returns I have it on good word his next project at Marvel will be on a flagship title.

So from here Kenny tells me that noone else is lined up to take the boys on a trip, I think someone should step to the plate as both Nancy and I had a blast putting this pictures together. If nothing I hope everyone learned something new and had fun doing it. If you have any questions then ask away.

Till next time gents thumbsup2.gif

Naw, unlike my US1 pics, I kept it clean, I know how some feel about porn and comics on the boards so I decided to pass this time.

Yeah the ship explosion is still big around here as it actually reshaped our landscape seperating the harbour on both sides.

I had a blast doing as did Nancy as that was the first time I was at Citadel Hill in about 15-20 years, next time something cool like that is around I'm game.

Off to the next person hi.gif

Halifax is a fantastic city. Funny, I didn't hear any mention of the great watering holes in Halifax... the Lowerdeck! cloud9.gif
