Brent I had wondered about that copy, its just too damn nice looking from the front cover. I agree with you, if the book is structurally sound then a minor stain should not hammer the grade significantly. I am tempted to crack open my HT#12 just to see if I can even locate it, it needs to be regraded in any event.

 

From what I can tell, CGC grades these small water stains consistently so I'm not sure re-slabbing is a good use of your money. Stains are a good example of defect that bothers some folks quite a bit. Others? Not so much. The stain haters generally don't like that something foreign has been added, so to speak, to the book and they like that very much less than general handling type defects.

I have heard the same thing from vintage Playboy collectors...they hate when they find "something foreign that has stained the pages"
