ReHolder Delirium and Submission Ambitions

I decided it was time to get back on the saddle. I reactivated my CGC membership because I had some slabs that really needed new holders. I had been putting this off due to a very unfortunate experience I had two years ago with a ReHolder submission. I submitted several books in the spring of 2019 from my Action Comics set, these were expensive pieces from the ‘70s, two of them were pedigrees, one such book was also in a fragile first generation holder, all were in 9.8 grade. I packed them well, sent them off, then got a disturbing email several weeks later informing me that four of my books would not receive the same grade. The email came with pictures of damaged books that were no longer in their holders. I had to have them pressed and  wait several months, it was not fun.

Thankfully all books came came back in 9.8 but…

Two of them came back in the horrible black and white pedigree label, that CGC has since improved on, and with big scratches on the holders. The other books came back with SCS. I’ll stop there, but it really left a bad taste in my mouth.

Why am I trying this again? I guess I was feeling cute when I woke up this morning, IDK.

So here it is, me giving this a second chance, getting back in the saddle. I probably won’t know how this goes for several months.

I have only sent books in for new holders that really needed it and these two are no exception. See spoiler tag for Newton Rings and inner well scuffing!

I’ll also use this journal entry’s comments section to notate my submissions to CGC.

good luck but those two l already look good the way the photo shows them....is there newton rings ?

The Superman #78 holder came with horrible Newton Rings and scratch marks not visible in the photos. The Adventures of Superman #500 has several distracting inner well scuffs, no way to display such a pristine book.

Good luck.

I just had to send two of my Adventures of Superman Platinum #500's back for Mechanical Error. ( Label Swap)

Will probably be preparing another 25 books submission this next week.

Good luck on your next submission.

I need some good vibes from the CGC boards on this one.

I received this in today’s mail, purchased from an eBay seller who claims, “Comic that was owned by store owner. Never read - bagged and boarded upon receiving.”

The book is in amazing condition, I have just prepared it for it’s journey to CGC headquarters. I’m hoping this will become the first example to grade 9.8, currently the only other grade in the census is a lone 9.4.

I had previously purchased two other copies of this TPB, also on eBay, both of which were nice but looked like they could get 9.4 at best. I first got the idea to go after this book almost four years ago, when I picked up issue one of the series collected in the handsome TPB.

They were just received, maybe this is the part where it stays the same for the next several months.

There have been a few posts recently that have had some submissions just fly through the process.  Looks like you got lucky.  Congratulations!

Wow!!  That’s great and FAST!  You know, I wonder if these got head of the line because you had grading credit from your Best Presented Set?  Whatever the reason for the brevity congrats!

Thank you so much!

I was wondering that also, I’ve never had a sub go so fast. I also have a few others submissions in queue, a ReHolder that’s scheduled for grading and a CCS sub marked as received. I also have a package (the Dracula TPB) that hasn’t been entered in yet.

I'm really grateful for the Registry Award credit, this was my first grading submission since February, 2018. I'm also really grateful that the holders came back without inner well scuffing, Newton Rings - I don't know if that is still an ongoing problem or not - and that the books were placed inside wells that were just the right fit for the books. It's a big enough gamble submitting raw books, getting a good holder is another gamble all together.

These books are a welcome back gift in a sense. With the Registry award credit I only had to pay for shipping. I already had all three of these books in 9.8 grade. I set aside these books in mylar because they looked so darn good, if not for the grading credit I would not have sent them in.

I'm also grateful for the quick processing time on this particular submission, this one somehow flew through the system, with the longest part being the time the package sat in the CGC headquarters (one month) before being entered into their system as “Received.”
