  1. Did anyone else pick up books that were part of the Kirkland Drug Store collection? bb This was photoshopped a little.
  2. But it reminds of the work on Hit by Reed Crandall or Lou Fine.
  3. I think this is a magnificent splash from Wings 22. Attributed to Elkan and Palais in the GCD.
  4. Such a cool splash! What issue is that from? I think that bloody splash was from Wings 35 and it is signed by Lubbers. A lot of earlier work on Capt. Wings looks like Baker art but I thought he started with Jumbo 69.
  5. I think I use to like you Andrew. Now I'm not so sure. Great book, regardless of PQ. Just a representative sample or looking for a run? The US dollar is rather weak at the moment Wings had some bloody "splash" panels.
  6. Beautiful page, BB. Who drew that? I mentioned this earlier but since you ask. I think, Black Angel stories are usually attributed to Cassone but Palais did some of them. That particular Air Fighters (V1 #10) story reminds me of Paul Gattuso who did the Black Dwarf. Hillman had some great heroes. It got dull later when the stories became more realistic. I think Cassone also did Twilight and Snoopy. The style looks different but I could have the wrong Clue page. Perhaps Palais did the inks as he did those on Doll Man. No record of Gattuso working at Hillman. Scan from the Who's Who.
  7. Great piece about Stoner. I especially got a kick out of the Gordon's Gin ad from Ebony Magazine that pictured Stoner and his wife at home. Link Here are a few of Stoner's illustrations to jog everyone's memories about his work. The Funnies #47 (September 1940) Those flesh colored briefs are kinky... I think the colorist made a mistake. It should have looked like this. I first thought this was some form of discrimination against Stoner but judging from the number of covers he did after these Phantasmo covers, I doubt if anyone noticed.

  9. I purchased this one on ebay but when it arrived that right hand corner was missing. I don't think it broke off but the dealer may have sliced it off while packing in mylar. I still like the cover but feel I should be compensated. Now that is the start of a horror story.

  11. nice ! where's this from? I think its from Air Boy/Air Fighters. I have seen that splash before, just not sure of the issue number. Bruce I think it is from Air Fighters V1 #10 since it is the only early issue in my collection. Looks like one of my scans too. Roy printed it in Alter Ego. Bruce
  12. Frank drew westerns because that was what everyone was buying back in the fifties. He drew really great westerns.
  13. Should mention again the work that Frazetta did for Magazine Enterprises. Especially liked his White Indian stories.
  14. There were some pretty good actors in those TV westerns. And a lot of good actresses played Annie Oakley. and sometimes the horse was the star.
  15. Black Diamond covers by Biro remind me of Crime does not Pay which remind me of Timely/Atlas Westerns. Black Diamond had Bing Bang Buster by Wolvertoon which is great.
  16. These Western threads seem to die off pretty fast. I still have a few covers and splash pages to show. Here is nice splash which seems to combine Westerns and Horror.
  17. Forgot one and thought I might sneak it in there. What's wrong with this picture.
  18. I like the early Sups as much as early Action. Fun stories and neat villians in all that were similar to the radio show. If you haven't listened to the early radio show then get a bunch of CDs and spend an evening listening. They are short but filled with action. And more from the Superman box. Now I can file them all away.
  19. Could be back cover to Joker 1. Any others?
  20. Just whining cause I found my Shadow comics were missing. I will probably find some of them in another box but searched for the Batman comics for a long time with no success. They probably were found by someone from NY or NJ. I sold better stuff for bargain prices but I have been trying to finish a Batman collection which now has a big gap in the silver age portion of the run. By the way, does anyone know which Timely comics were running this ad?
  21. By the way, I have tried to buy coverless copies on the internet but found half of them are missing the centerfold. I guess people think it doesn't matter or they don't check or they keep the centerfold for another married copy. It seems frustrating. I think I do this to increase the number of golden age comics that I can buy but hope that it isn't a complete loss of money. A high grade CGC copy is still probably a better investment but I can never justify owning just one box of comics that are high grade versus 20 boxes of golden age that are not. I recently lost a large number of silver age comics to people who went through my house while it was on sale or the movers or the painters that helped me fix it up but couldn't bother to match the colors with the walls. I hope some dealer made a few bucks off of those high grade books. They weren't very interesting but now I have to buy some silver age Batman issues...again.
