  2. Don't remember when I picked this up but Argosy was much larger than a pulp by 1942. I think this came out around the same time as Pearl Harbor. I doubt if they would have had a negative comment about FDR after WWII started. bb
  3. I thought these scans of Subby from MM 41 made an interesting combination. Not sure who made the originals. \ Those Giant Nazi robots against Subby seems like a fair fight. bb
  4. Nice cover! It makes a nice bookend to this cover: I like this one too.
  5. I thought this was an appropriate cover since I will be teaching microbiology lab next term. However, I don't think that compound microscope is going to be sufficient to observe an atom. She will just be out of luck.
  6. :cloud9:I love the car in the background. Oh yeah, cute girl too. bb
  7. I also don't use phone booths as much as I used to. Just noticed that the drug store has a comic rack in the background. Don't see that much anymore either.
  8. I just got my set the other day and I'm reading Volume 1 right now. It's absolutely fascinating. The letters begin when he is only 17 years old, writing to his friends who were also burgeoning writers. It's amazing to their thoughts as they discover writers like Burroughs, Lamb, and Mundy for the first time. He and and his friends were selling each other books through the mail after they read them as well; it reminded me a lot of these boards actually. I guess I won't be reading those books any time soon. I received this e-mail from my library the other day. A request you have placed: Title: The collected letters of Robert E. Howard / Journal Title: Edition/Reels/Volume: TN: 79493 has been cancelled by Interlibrary Loan for the following reason: Lending Library Fee. Please authorize by entering noted amount [$23.00] in Maximum Authorized Loan Fee field and resubmit request. There is only one owning library, University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. They charge a loan fee of $23.00. BZ, I rarely use the University library at West Chester since we have the internet but I might check to see if they have a deal with the University of the Sciences. One of the faculty was working on a book about REH with someone. Maybe they have a copy. Thanks for the info. I can probably scan a few pages if I can get my hands on a copy. bb
  9. I think my copy is a little better but the bottom right corner has been photoshopped and I am not interested in selling. This is another fun one-shot from Avon.
  10. I have two copies of the Disney comics but only one cover. But these aren't grails.
  11. I don't remember seeing this one before. Looks great RS. bb

  13. I was looking for a cover for Detective 60 and got a Christmas present today. Found this in the Batman Vault. Cover by Fred Ray.
  14. Those are great! How much of those Superman-Tim books are actual comics inside? Some of the Tim books have reprints from Action comics but just a few pages. I don't think most of them have any comics. They are usually filled with games and puzzles.

  17. I think I bid on that All-Picture Adventure recently. Does it have baker art? Canteen Kate? bb
  18. Great cover BZ. It is always a good idea to keep a little mistletoe handy during the holidays. bb
  19. Jack, I used to be picky about my Ducks but now I am happy to get a couple of filler issues to help complete the run. bb
  20. I just got a beat up copy of this Christmas story by Barks. I've read it before when it was reprinted in the sixties but I had forgotten that the witch from DD 26 was used in the story. It was a Strange Christmas-Halloween crossover. Fun to read tho. bb If Sally's sister, Liz, wants to get the copy back, I would be happy to hand it over in person. :shy:bb
  21. Picked up this one in a big stack of beat up comics. A little photo shop was done to repair a crease that was inflicted after purchase. Like these too but story is incomplete in WDCS 38. They are Fun comics to read.
  22. I think I like dragon covers almost as much as giant robots. bb
