  1. You're right, he does have a complete run...but I'm thinking it might end with McFarlane's last stand.
  2. Okay, you ASM fiends. It's been brought up before, but it seems like it's been a while... Who has a complete run of ASM on some level? #1-50? #1-100? #1-200? #1-300? #1-328? #1-441? (silverweb, for one, take a bow ) #1-present? Chime in if you have some kind of sweet ASM run...OR if you're really close (say, less than 10 issues ). Or chime in if you know of a boardie who has a complete run but doesn't drop in as frequently.
  3. Kudos to you, Mark, for some recent ASM trades--haven't opened my package yet on the #41 as it's been a crazy week. Are you on the prowl for an ASM #1 yet? not yet, gonna get everything else upgraded 1st and then put like 5k together and get a 4.0ish oh and kudos right back at ya (thumbs u Get to it.
  4. Kudos also to: --ft88 for my first-ever copy of The X-Men #94. --mazman77 for a great deal on a complete set of both Crisis on Infinite Earths and Marvel Super-Heroes Secret Wars. --Point Five for a nice, low grade copy of ASM #50.

  6. And kudos to you, sir. rsortor gave me a beyond sweet deal on an ASM #6. Said he bought it about 8 or 9 years ago on ebay and that he'd sell it to me for the same low price he bought it at. It arrived with the original invoice from ebay. Accurately graded. Well-packed. Thank you, Ronnie. :hail: And congrats on your recent upgrade on the issue.
  7. Bought a copy from a boardie today, looks like a possibility for 9.6 to me. http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=3828588&fpart=18 I saw that! Considering your screen name, maybe I don't need to ask if you're going to send it down to Sarasota. If you don't mind, Check back in when you have some results. I will certainly update when slabbed. I bought a raw #135 on the board to give it company on the trip to FLA. I am now addicted to board sales!

  9. AWESOME!!!!!!! thats pretty much my eventual goal (thumbs u Hey Jeff...you're gonna have to ditch that ASM 2 6.5...it's throwing the whole 6.0 collection groove out of whack... and I just so happen to have your replacement copy you can trade the 6.5 for... Exactly. Precisely. That's gotta wreak havoc on any version of OCD. Make the trade with Tom!
  10. Kudos to: tortoise for a nice trade deal on an ASM #50 and ASM Annual #1. Low grade, affordable goodness.
  11. I have one of the first 9.6s given. I subbed it along with a run of other OO books in 2001. It still sits in its original modern red label holder. It may be a candidate for a resub. Resub it! Or actually, I've never seen a #151 in a red holder...and it is a 9.6. (If you do resub, and it comes back 9.4, I'll disappear for a while. ) No worries there. (thumbs u It's not a 9.4 even on a bad CGC day. There are 2 tiny NCB marks along the spine, that can only be seen with tilting of the book. Nothing else. I'm not terribly motivated to re-sub though. As an end note, 173 also is a very difficult book in 9.8, especially compared to the census numbers around it. That #173 generally doesn't come up much in the higher grades.
  12. Make it two. By the way, it is posts like these that make these forums fun to read. (thumbs u Another no-prize awarded. :hail: Thanks for the kind words, but I'm thinking the Diet Mountain Dews I had the other day need to be given their due.

  14. Kudos to: --tofer118 for a box of ASM goodies from the recent VCC shindig. I finally upgraded my raw ASM #201 in VF to a CGC 9.6 (WP). --thedude for a couple of G.I. Combats for a very nice price and an OUr Army at War #70 freebie. :hail: And a persoanlized note, image included, from THE big Lebowski.
  15. Those are utterly sick. And your sig line is way over the top. Holy man.
  16. I love this issue. When I was a lad, my brother picked up issue #150 but we missed issue #151 and #152 and I started collecting ASM at 153 on. I ordered several issues through mail order. It was hit or miss back then, but my 151 and 152 were nice books. Alas, they did not fair too well in my young hands. Several years past and I upgraded several issues, 151 being one of them. I finally sent my uprgraded #151 in to cgc grading and it came back a 9.4. Would have thought 9.6, but I'm happy with it. :hail: Thanks for sharing. I too had to upgrade my original owner copy. Here is my raw copy ,and do believe if submitted would get a 9.6/9.8 Are you going to keep it raw?
  17. Alright, guys and gals, a plug for the Bronze Comics sub-forum and "Bronze Spideys" in particular. I just got a tad long-winded about all manner of things regarding ASM #151...so, if anyone's interested, hop on over there and check it out. Pardon this brief interruption into the Silver Age world of ASM. Okay, here's a connection. The Shocker first appeared in a Silver Age ASM. Shocker in ASM #151.
  18. Besides singling out this issue by its image (admittedly a non-key issue), I want to discuss some serious crazy stuff going on with the market value of this black cover beauty. I will draw from personal experience just over a year ago, some boardies' input which proved accurate, GPA info (my beloved just got me a subscription ), some personal research, and the current winds of change that will still have you guessing how much this bad boy can go for if you got one...or want one. Please, fellow ASM Bronze fans, chime in on this persoanl favorite. And lest anyone think I'm only in it for values and market and so on, this was the time frame when I was a kid and readiing the title--and there was nothing like it. Overstreet reminds us that this issue is where "Spider-Man disposes of clone body." The Shocker comes to town too. And sewers and rats. Mercy! ______________________________________________________________________________ Okay, okay, When someone starts to post incessantly it gets very annoying, but I've got to follow up with my story and hopefully () it'll be interesting and also will spur some stories and feedback. After a 15 year break from comics, in summer of 2007, I get back into the hobby. In 2008, I submit a batch of (at the time) moderns that included a copy of ASM #151 from my personal ASM collection. Although I read the comic as an 8-year-old from either a subscription or from the 7-Eleven, I definitely picked up another copy in the late '70s or early '80s and this was the one I submitted to CGC. It came back a 9.6 (OWW) and I soon discovered that it wasn't exactly worth 48.00 (the 9.2 price in Overstreet). Truth be told, as a purported ASM collector, I guess a case could be made that I sold out it when I decided I was going to put it on the market. I figured I'd get a nice 9.0 or 9.2 copy as a replacement and make some funds in the process. The question was "How much?" And that's a question that's going to get some fluid answers for this book in this grade. I PMed BronzeBruce13, Foolkiller, greggy, Foolkiller, and Worldsbestcomics (I might have left out a person or two) and asked their input on the value of the book. Besides greggy giving me a (I'm paraphrasing here from memory ), I basically heard from the scribes that 400-700 was the range. For someone whose allowance is basically 100-150 per month, this was enticing. The book went up in a ComicLink auction in late 2008. Its hammer price was 705.00. This was barely over a year ago. Although I might whine that I'd like to still own it--sentimental value, monetary value, etc.--there's no doubt it was a great time to sell. At that time, I recall there being about 150 copies on the census and only 10 or 11 in 9.6 (now there are 19 in 9.6 and 193 submitted--so the 9.6s have nearly doubled with the last 40-odd submissions--choose your favorite theory or theories on this one). GPA for this book in 9.6--19 copies total--as of yesterday (Feb. 3, 2010) is as follows: '08: 519.00 (1 sale); doesn't include mine since ComicLink won't cooperate with GPA '09: 597.00 (4 sales) 12 mo. avg.: 460.00 (4 sales) Last sale: 306.00 (Feb. 2010)...more on this in a bit. Here is some of the research I've compiled on specific 9.6 sales: 9.6 (Oww) 705.00 11/18/08 ComicLink Auction...My former book that you just heard more than you wanted to know about. 9.6 (OWW) 519.09 12/1/08 ebay (John Haines Rare Comics)...ebay gets less than ComicLink factor? Or the fluid nature of #151 in general? 9.6 (OWW) 853.00 1/27/09 ComicLink Auction...Holy man. The highest amount ever paid for a 9,.6? ComicLink factor hard to deny. 9.6 (OWW) 676.00 2/9/09 ebay...Just days after a likely record-breaking price, this copy--a sweet one with no miswrap--sells for substantially less. 9.6 (OWW) 425.00 4/21/09 ComicLink Auction...Uh, whoops. So much for ComicLink's infallibility. This was one low price. Or is it along the lines of the book's finally settling down and "HG Bronze has been taken a major hit in '09"? 9.6 (pQ?) 291.00 7/09 This was a sale recorded by GPA....Some would say an anomaly for this issue. This is dirt cheap. Or is it a trend? 9.6 (WP) 306.00 2/2/10--just 2 days ago! ebay...the boards' own filter81 puts up the first white page specimen I've tracked on this book and I thought the book would easily eclipse 500.00. Don't know what Adam was expecting, but the guy's got so many sweet books maybe he's lost track. I would've loved to have bid on this book if I had the coin (why did I sell mine ) Okay, so I, being wise in my own eyes, had pretty much realized that this book was on its way down in a big way--and that was all there was to it. BUT THEN...right here on the boards, not too long after filter81's book sold, a fellow boardie puts one up for sale (the scan of which I borrowed in this post) for 600.00. I'm thinking to myself, "Okay, GPA is at about 600 but this book is clearly going down...I highly doubt it'll sell, but nonetheless very sweet book and good luck." Then I check back, less than 24 hours later, and the book has sold to an anonmyous buyer. Even if it was less than 600 via pM, I'm betting it was a lot higher than 300 or 400. So...there you have it: The wild, wacky world of one non-key Bronze AGe ASM. It's been 10 years and now 19 9.6s, but I think this book in this grade is anything but predictable. Just wait until that lone 9.8 goes up for sale. Thoughts? Comments? Stories? Insights? Automatic no-prize for anyone who read this entire post. It ain't easy in this Attention-Deficit Disorder world we find ourselves in.
  19. Beauties. Wish bhhooks22 were still around to especially enjoy the #138.
  20. It is odd to some degree. Might it be the clone body that has resurrected itself from being discarded and is preventing any 9.8 clones? But seriously, it is interesting that the issue continues (at least for now) to be one tough cookie. When it comes to ASMs in the #100-199 range, #151 is the only issue with only one 9.8. No 10.0s to speak of in this 100 issue span, but here are the 12 total copies of 9.9s that DO exist: #126 #130 #135 #166 (2 copies)--Worldsbestcomics posted one of these he owns on an earlier page of this very thread. #182 Rocket Racer. #192 #194 (3 copies :whatthe: ) Black Cat hat trick? #196 #198
