  1. Indeed. Of course, I, like many other folks posting here and, I believe, especially, if you will, comic book folks who may have never heard of CGC or other comic book grading companies, enjoy the heck out of going to a comic book store. There is something visceral about the experience; intellect be damned.
  2. On a related topic, in the 1980s, 1990s, and into the early 2000s; yes, a "long time ago"; every direct sale LCS I purchased from offered a discount on the price of new comic books typically ranging from 10 to 20 percent. I do not recall newsstands where I resided offering a discount. Since then, all the LCS I visit only offer a discount (5 to 10%) if you have a subscription service/pull list with them. Unfortunately, it was my limited experience many years ago that a great many of the comic books the shops pulled were not "pristine," which I view as NM to NM/M (although 9.4, even 9.6, for almost all new comic books was not a "great" grade and, of course, NM/M did not "exist" in the 1980s and 1990s) but, on average, from 8.0 to 9.2. Whether the grade of store pulled comic books has improved I do not know because the last time I had a pull list was, give or take, 1984. In sum, I imagine that since the LCS you mention prices based on eBay sold and/or for sale prices they do not offer a discount if, at least, one selects their new comic books from the shelf.
  3. Yes, I believe that the LCS is displaying the CGC graded comic books to not only sell them but as a draw to, among other things, bring in new and repeat customers, to improve sales, and to, of course, sell them because, as we know, some folks will drop, let's say, $400 on a comic book that you can purchase via another venue for $275, as any retailer worth their salt, comic book dealer or otherwise, does. Edit: I failed to add that some folks either don't care to look for/find a cheaper price, don't know to, it may be easier for them to purchase it then and there, they can inspect the graded comic book, etc.
  4. One of the LCS I visit has submitted comic books to CGC for grading for perhaps 13 years and also purchases CGC graded comic books. However, the prices they ask, especially recently, for a "key" modern age 9.4 graded comic book, for example, are astronomical. I believe they also sell via eBay for, I imagine, less than the "store price." Since I have no interest in whether the comic books sell, I've never inquired if they do so in the shop and/or eBay nor the prices they sell for. Of course, even if I was interested in that, it is none of my business and they may inform me of such.
  5. I may now start purchasing again. Of course, to be melodramatic, just before a purchase, prices will again "reach the stars" and I'll be left empty handed.
  6. Oy vey. Now, I may begin to worry about submitting even the modern comic books I do because I like the covers and wish to add them to my CGC collection.
  7. I believe the dealer should give the comic books for free for your inconvenience. As he is doing that, please request that he also send me two free comic books. Any two CGC 9.8 are fine. My mailing address is forthcoming via pm. I joke.
  8. Ok. I'm waiting for a holder with no comic book or label. Edit: And the holder is cracked.
  9. X-Force always scared the hell out of me; the writing, art, covers, ...
  10. I submitted 25 comic books in 2008 and am still waiting to receive them. However, I vaguely recall sending them to CGC's Moscow address. Moscow, ID that is. (edit)
  11. To reiterate, my goal is to have 1000 posts by ... on ... at ... ... ... ... ... eventually.
  12. Well, Gwen does "die," and then she (eventually) does (did) not. Then ....
  13. Did MH advertise the comic book as a G/2.0 or as NM? As concerns the apparent doodling, I submitted an A S-M 9 several years ago that had (correction, "has") doodling on the "S" and graded it as as 6.5/FN+ with the doodling and CGC "agreed," grading it 6.5. Without the doodling I graded it 7.5/VF-. I could not complain about the doodling as that comic book and several other A S-M keys were part of a $25 purchase from a gentleman around 1982 or 1983 that "just wanted to get rid of this junk." The comic books were all in a cardboard box, bag and backing board free. Of course, the comic books were basically "worthless" in 1984.
  14. I carried on some comic books around 2006 and a TSA agent in checking my carry on twisted the several comic book packets, that I informed her were comic books, to ensure they were not dangerous. Thankfully, expecting as much, each packet had literally a ton of backing boards for each comic book and at each end and, thus, none were damaged. However, I have not carried-on comic books since, preferring to ship them.
  15. I am preparing either a 25 or 50 modern comic book submission and I imagine that I will not receive the graded books for, give or take, seven to eight months. At that point, I'll consider the books "vintage."
  16. The price of every comic book that I have invested in has dropped like a Led Zeppelin, which I do not mind. In hindsight, apparently purchasing 1000 copies of X-Force 1 in 1991 was not a good idea.
  17. Error error error, error error, error error error error error error error error error error error. Error error error error error error error error, error error error error error error error error error error error. Error, noeerrort toerror baerrord.
  18. I purchased a proverbial ton of CGC graded comic books for about 15 years, including prior to to the "great price rise," so as far as that goes, I'm set with keys, DC, Marvel, etc,, and, especially Amazing Spider-Man, Batman, and Detective Comics. Still, I continue to enjoy collecting/purchasing but, as stated, will not do so at prices I do not feel comfortable paying.
