  1. Since Marvel gave that story to Miller to draw (who was at the top of his game)

nah, that was not Miller's peak.

If by the top, you mean artistically, that period would really begin with DKR and end with 300, so roughly 87-2000 (damn my horrible memory).

if by the top, you mean in terms of clout, that would be roughly the same time period.

When Miller did Wolverine LS, his star was still rising.

Well I didn't mean he'd peaked but he was definately at the top of his game. He was doing covers for Marvel and I was all gaga for anything Miller so he had a strong following already.

GCD is down for me so I can't check.

Does anyone remember the time line of DD #158-191, Wolverine Mini #1-4 and X-men #108-141?

    R.

late 1970`s to early 1982 or 1983.I was a kid reading that stuff, saying to myself this is better than cable tv. lol.
  2. ...and the TPB's remain permananently in print....

Did I say permananently...? And I'm not even drunk :insane:

More importantly, why aren't Hellblazer back issues more highly valued than Sandman?

    1) Started years before Sandman

    2) Still running today!

    3) Most of the series remains un-reprinted

    4) Has had a movie starring Keanu (much as we wish it hadn't)

i always wondered about that. i have never read Hellblazer but i did see the movie and thought it was pretty good. how does it compare to the comic?

You might want to try out the Hellblazer videogame that was pretty interesting.

  3. i never read DC's Sandman but its obviously insanely popular. why are backissues so low in price?

Different kind of collector not Superheroes collector. Goth.

A lot of adults collectors buy AF 15,Spider-man and superheroes back issues to recapture thier youth memories, while Sandman was allways bought by a much older crowd. You never know though after the success of Dark Knight and probally Watchmen you can bet the beancounters at Warners are looking to turn Neil Gaiman`s Sandman into a major motion picture. so buy cheap now.

  4. Steve Summers( the director of Gi joe) 3 Mummy movies made more money then the 3 X-men movies combined.

It will outgross the first x-men movie. There are more GI JOE fans then X-men fans.

They have 3 gi joe movies planned. This is were Snake Eyes gets his due.

I see GI JOE 1 as a key. YO JOE!

There're 3 planned? Can I read about this somewhere? That's pretty good news if the studio is committed to all 3. Makes for possibly more thought spent on how to do these very well.

QUAID confirms 3 gi joes planned

there are other links around just google them.

  5. I could really careless about the movie I think it's gonna suck big time, I'lm just hoping it will force the cartoon to be reissued on DVD. :wishluck:

Let me get this straight....... there are MORE Joe fans than X-Men fans?!?!?!?!?!? doh!

Look at the sales figures from the mid 80's until '94 when Joe got shelved..... Uncanny X-men ALWAYS beat G.I. Joe

That must be why the original Marvel Joe series got shelved..... because there were more Joe fans than X-Men fans :tonofbricks:

Listen, I love G.I. Joe as much as anyone :insane: but there is no way in Cobra-La  there are more Joe fans :makepoint:

I fear the G.I. Joe movie is going to be like Episode 1....... with all the build-up and hype, there will probably be no way in hell that it can live up to expectations :flamed:

I hope for a good movie, but once again Hollywood will probably find a way to clusterspoon it :sorry:

I am talking about the big picture.I will bet GI JOE the movie does better boxoffice then X-men the movie 1.Toys outsell comics easilly.GI JOE is mainstream compared to the X-men.I guess we will find out come August.

btw I always thought Snake Eyes was so much cooler than Wolverine and could kick his butt :kidaround:

  7. Some of the things I like to collect are anti comic propoganda. If you have any please post them.

The first item has to be:

Seduction of the Innocent (1st print- no bibliography)

    anticomic003.jpg

Wertham gave this away at a 1953 Baptist convention. Its a general overview of SOTI.

    anticomic010.jpg

:hail: Nice thread.......Baptist convention...... Does anyone know Wertham's religious background? I bet those leaving that con were convinced that comics were "of the devil." It reminds me of logical fallacies and the ol' post hoc fallacy...the event of comic books eventually led to a rise in juvenile delinquency. Not that Baptists should be singled out--plenty of atheists, agnostics, and other religiously persuaded folks have been/are guilty of a lack of thinking. And back in the '50s and '60s they didn't even have the distraction of the world-wide Web or reality TV.

But as we soon learned, it was really Rock 'n' roll that was responsible for juvenile delinquency, at least until television became the reason for it. But video games, yeah, that's it, violent video games are the real reason for all the juvenile delinquency. (I'm looking forward to the day comics can be to blame again.)

or hip hop. everybody wants to lead the gangsta life. yeah blame it on hiphop. thier is always something to blame on the youth when its probally the adults wishing they could be young again and having fun like the younger generation has.
  8. I began reading Moderns again back in late 1999.

I stopped reading Moderns with the birth of our second child 7 months ago.

While I regret missing the whole who's a Skrull thing, it was a just another sacrifice made in exchange for the incomparable Blessings of Family.

Now I'm going to spend about 30 minutes checking out what's up on the Boards before I leave the office. doh!

Just read a couple of tradepaperbacks about the Skrull Invasion, you will catch up quick.

  9. I can say, with 100% conviction, that NOTHING is better than having children... no matter the trials and tribulations, or the sacrifices etc... NOTHING equals it!

My son brought me back into comic characters via videogames/movies.Having kids changes everything about your life, your comic collecting will be the least of your worries.

  10. hmmm, do you think marvel was planning on making wolverine into a big deal or did they run these sorts of things every time a new hero/villian was coming in?

i don't remember an ad for the rocket racer or the constrictor.....

I think he was thier first big mainstream hero from Canada and they have or had a huge market there. Wolverine predates Alpha Flight as thier first major Canadian hero/heroes. anyone care to clarify this?

  11. i'd like to complete my run, i think i have practically everything 100 and below as well as the last 20-30 issues, it's just that some of the stuff in like the 130s - 200 wasn't very good and i'm loath to spend money on it

    ditto on savage sword

no interest, for whatever reason, in King Conan, even though I basically have the set

I thought Conan 175-205 was some of the best stuff, actually.

yeah original stories, wasn`t Roy Thomas rehashing and adapting Robert Howard stories.
