  1.

The character has sadly slipped out of the pop culture arena since the 1979 T.V. show (which I loved as a kid!). I would love to see a modern take on Buck Rogers that is closer to Philip Nowlan's original stories, but after seeing what the SF channel did to Flash Gordon last year, maybe it's not a good idea.

    Jeff

Let`s see Buck Rogers,Flash Gordon,Lone Ranger,Shadow and Tarzan at one time were big or bigger than Batman. I wonder why the fell out of the publics imagination and if they will ever become big again?

  2. nice! where did you pick up these beautys?

    I bought them at the Atlanta Comic Convention on Sunday........hope I didnt overspend!! I have a nice early run now, AF 15, 2, 3, 4, 6 (CGC 4.5), 9 (CGC 4.5).......13, 14 (CGC 7.0) 15 ............

there is no way your overspent. early Spideys are like a barrel of oil or ounce of gold. they keep going up and up. skys the limit! congratualations on some great books.

  3. Thanks. Hope they end up bringing ok money.

It's true that prices have been going up almost across the board, though certain genres are cooling. Bronze horror and SA DCs both seem to be on the downturn, but silver age Marvels and classic cover and superhero golden age are red hot.

I am always surprised that mags don't generate more interest. It really doesn't get much better than early Creepy and Eerie issues, but even the rare numbers I have found cheap. Not long ago I found a raw Creepy 32 in 8.5 or so for $25, and a raw Eerie 23 in 9.0 for $35 or so. This stuff tends to fly under the radar more than most genres.

the Marvels are hot due to the movies and videogames. brings new blood into the market. Warrens out of business and they are obscure from the mainstream.
  4. best episode ever. it`s fascinating how the oldtimers comicbook retailer became rich and millionares like mile high comics. I don`t think if someone started today with the advent of ebay and the internet they could become as big as Sparkle City and Mile High Comics. back then buy valuable comic for 5 dollars from a kid or uninformed adult then flip it for a thousand dollars to collector. You had to be in at the beginning.thats how empires are built . too late for the newcomer now. with the internet and ebay easier to find out price then back in the day when you had to look thru newspaper classifieds.

  5. As a boy, I really enjoyed Arnold & Milius' CTB. It has held-up only semi-well for me. The artistic success that it did achieve was probably because Dino & crew took it seriously. Mako was good in it & made for a pretty darn good narrator too. Nice voice. Interesting face.

The sequel was terrible. Terrible camp. Unlike good camp ---- Flash Gordon (1980?) & 1960's Batman.

As much as people complain about Conan The Destroyer the story is really more like the REH stories than Conan The Barbarian. It just goes to show you, what makes good reading does not necessarly make good cinema.

conan movies rocked,we need another to finish off the trilogy. I wonder if Marvel kicking itself for letting Conan go?

  6. What, you didn't see Tarzan the musical?

Well, the Western Genre (Lone Ranger) took a big dive. Although there were some good westerns this year (which I hope to see on cable or netflix at some point), not much for character based merchandising.

And tarzan, a big remnant of colonialism and racism (and heck, when you think of africa now you think of a lot more depressing topics than jungle vine swinging). you couldn't show some of those tarzan movies in theatres nowadays without them getting burned down. conan, being pure fantasy, is easier to keep "current".

yeah good points. it also shows how you can be on top(tarzan, loneranger, doc savage, the shadow) and not even being relevant with todays generation. I could also see this happening to superman soon especially if DC loses the copyright..
  7. this conan online game is creating quite the buzz

    age of conan

Conan is still cool but on the other hand 2 heroes I can think of Tarzan and Lone Ranger have gone down. them 2 were on a par with Superman and Batman years ago and now?
