  1. Here it is. I am going dig up more old CBG ads from the Alan Light era showing horror/scifi stuff. when I get a chance.
  2. Hmmmm, I'd grade both the TOS 8 and 18 around VFs. Nice off-white paper. Didn't the TOS 8 win Korvac's best cover contest awhile back?
  3. Great pickup of a truly Baker classic. The bidding was hot and heavy for this copy!
  4. Here is a copy of TOS # 18 I was lucky to acquire a few years ago. It does seem to be a tough one to locate in grade. I really love this cover, too
  5. Here is another exceptional RQ Sale story from JIM # 17, 1954.
  6. No, they were not considered "banzai" or suicide charges. This was a fighting tactic of the chinese armies since they lacked close air support, no tanks and little artillery. They specialized in fighting under cover of darkness using whistles, bugles and horns to demoralize and frighten their enemy. The tactics were simple, frontal assaults on revealed positions, infiltration and ambushes to cut the enemy's rear, and massed manpower attacks on open flanks of their enemy. War correspondents, at the time, described the attacking waves as a "human sea" or "swarm of locusts". It must have been an absolutely frightening ordeal.
  7. Keep them coming, Scrooge. Even though I sold off most of my Battleground issues, I did keep the #1. The Maneely quad-fifties on the half-track cover is one of my favorite. During the Korean war, this was our answer to the chinese human assault waves. A great book to read on the K-war is "The Forgotten War" by Clay Blair which vividly describes these type of battles.I also still have my Revell quad-fifties half-track model I built 40 years ago.
  8. I came across this RQ Sale 5 pager from Strange Tales # 29. One of his better horror stories.
  9. Real nice pick up, guys. Extra kudos, Bronty for the TOS 14 and TTA 30. I was also eyeing that TTA. I think you got it at a bargain. The CGC census indicates that there is a 9.8 copy out there I picked this up from the previous Clink auction Picked this one up from Joe V. at the Philly Wizard Con Picked up the next two, courtesy of Greg Reece The TTA 13 is one of my favorites and would be in my top 20 PH's. The TOS 5, whew, cost me my first born, my left nut, a few books and some cash. Seriously though, a major pick up for my collection of a tough issue. Like the top 20 idea, will try to piece mine together.
  10. I picked up these books from the Philly WW Con on friday. Nice Severin cover The FW 8 has a rare Gray Morrow story. Only Atlas western I have ,so far, seen with his unique artwork.
  11. Some of my favorites. Western Outlaws #1 Frontier Western # 3
  12. I agree, but would also add JIM 56-74 and ST 72-89.
  13. I had a few Bethlehem PCH books. One was WTOF #1. It was nice, maybe VF/VF+, but nothing close to this WTOF 3 as a NM/M. Back then you just hoped you were a least getting a VF with those advertised NM and NM/M books. Those numbers in ink were Overstreet values at that time for issues I had some interest in. I cannot remember if I inquired, because I did not purchase any.
  14. Thought I would give this thread a bump with this cool CBG ad from1989. Where the hell is a time machine when you need one? Anyone know Al?
  15. Here is my Hulk 1. Have a lot invested in it, 12 cents to be exact. One of my key marvels that survived my mother's cleaning up purge. The AF 15 did not.
  16. Thought I would post my new acquistions. The TTA's from Clink and the ST from Ebay. I have been trying to upgrade my raw FN minus copy of TTA 11 for as long as I can remember. Very happy to pick up this book!!!!
  17. Just stellar looking books, Jimbo !!!!
  18. I was just lucky to get a head start on some of you guys. Keep collecting and posting your new acquisitions for all to see. In the process maybe we'll bring more PH collectors and enthusiasts into the fold.
  19. The first two books, TOS 9 and 29 were the most disappointing. I thought they were better than this. The others I thought were higher, but nothing wrong with 8.0's. l This is a true story. I had the current highest grade copy of this issue (9.0). I held this copy and the 9.0 side by side and thought this copy was as nice or better.. So, I sold the slabbed 9.0 on Heritage years ago. Currently it is residing in Turtleboys collection. The JIM 77 and 78 I think were graded exactly right Well that does it. Glad I could share these with you boardies. These were the best books I had left that were raw in my collection. Still have some decent other raws, but not as good as this bunch.
  20. Back on page 335, I mentioned a collection that I was able to get first crack at in San Diego years and years ago. I just now got more of them slabbed. Also, I think the TOS 13 came from Jef Hinds. That was a short subject of conversation too. Some of these grades surprised me and others were disappointments. I'll post some of the books that I thought were low graded. Also, getting back to that collection in SanDiego. I only pulled books that were gaps in my collection at the time. I wasn't looking for upgrades. There were many other HG copies that I passed over.
