  1. I think so far, the polls are pretty well aligned (total yes vs no). But it will be interesting to see how the people who voted for yes with a condition vote decide. They could just decide no vote is better than taking away their desired condition.

The people who are adamant about just voting yes without any conditions are likely to remain the same in their view, so I expect the first yes voters to not deviate much.

I get the idea of wanting a larger consensus now. The more choices you add, the harder it would be to arrive at that, so this seems to be the way to go.

I posted this over in the HC thread in CG, but thought it was germane to this thread as well.

Wow, Omar broke some big news yesterday: Marvel is going to reprint their Marvel Masterworks line, starting in 2023. They've announced the first 8 volumes, which are in the same order as the original 8 volumes. These will be new remasters, so it should be the best presentation of the material to date.

What's VERY interesting to me is that they are apparently going to issue each book in both the now standard black/silver dress, as well as re-issue the "variant" covers (which originally were the only covers, before the line was rebooted, but I digress.)

Anyway, this will presumably affect values on original printings. Now, to be fair, the first 27 volumes are very common and not expensive, so even if they're releasing a volume each month (which looks to be the case) it's still going to be at least a couple of years before they start getting into the volumes which currently enjoy a high resale value.

It's also not clear just how far they're going to continue the line, though common sense would dictate that they'll keep releasing new ones as long as they're selling well.

SO...yeah. Great news if you ever wanted to get in on the ground floor of this 30+ year reprint exercise, but if you're someone who is holding onto those harder to find volumes due to their value, you've got some food for thought. Personally, I'm looking forward to plugging in some big gaps in my collection, and am giving some thought to selling off some omnis in favor of the Masterworks, which are nicer books, and much easier to read.

Nuts. All the premiums I payed for those hard to find titles. Argg.  I wonder if the jackets will be 100% identical to at least match the existing holes. There were some Daredevil bronze duds I never picked up because they covered them in an epic. MMWs were out of this world prices.  Wonder how long they will take to hit the bronze age?

Update: Received our check from ComicLink and deposited. I would encourage everyone who had to read about this donkey flogging waste of time weigh in on the CGC Board poll about sellers having to disclose if they have a consigned book in-hand in sales threads (it will help make OUR sales threads continue to be one of the best places to buy books):

That poll can be found here.

Thanks to everyone for sympathy and words of encouragement in the thread. We are off to find another Chamber of Chills 19. :headbang:

Totally off topic, but I remember seeing that book on Craigslist (nice copy not graded) about 10 or 15 years ago for a few hundred. Just blows me away how much books appreciated since those days. Could have loaded up on so many for a relative song.

My life's work is keeping...this...thread...on the main page!

IST must have discovered a couple of "lost" pallets after their warehouse move, as they suddenly have a bunch of long OOP Marvel Masterworks back into stock. A few volumes have sold out, but there's still lots of good stuff, including several books that sell for $100+. Most of them are listed at $37.50. Can't beat that with a bat. My first shipments arrived this week. I have a few more coming, and hopefully can score the rest from my Wishlist before they sell out again. If you've missed a MMW in the last few years, it's worth taking a look to see if they have it.

I also picked up this hardcover reprint of the Superboy LoSH tabloid. This book is huge, and I may need the rest of these now! A lovely $40 book on clearance for $17, couldn't pass it up at that price.

Yep on mmws. They even had the blood variant of Tomb of Dracula for 30 something. Didn't last long though. I picked up a bunch of mmws I've been staying away from. Best deal in long while.

I missed that LOSH though, darnit! Good catch.

The two blackouts were down to flashbacks to when he was being held by the Russians weren't they? The Herogasm one against T and T definitely was as that song set him off. When he was trying to use it against Homelander it was like he was struggling to bring it out as if he hasn't got much control over it.

Every time I rewatch that scene, I can't help but think how the heck was he able to stop it after Homelander took off (SB seemed just at the edge of his herogasm release)? Hughie (at least) should have been evaporated.

My first attempt at hyper-realism.  Went with the cliche "apple".  Took about 4 hours.  Prismacolor on Strathmore 300 vellum surface.

Surreal. I am amazed at what people can do with prismacolor pencils. How much does the vellum surface add to the realism in your opinion? (It's like Jordan shoes, it's gotta be the shoes).

    loved it.

There is some interesting "chatter" online regarding who actually is stronger of the two.

    I am currently undecided.

The three of them battling Homelander reminded me of Avengers taking on Thanos.  Whole new level of respect for me.

Soldier Boy didn't get a chance to deliver his knockout though. Got to give it to Homelander for escaping.

That was right after this pic with the undertaker, and I was talking about how after walking and standing, I forgot to look alive and smile for the picture. :sorry:

Tall sob my brother is 6'5" and I'm 5'8" for reference, but the undertaker is 6'10"

This is freaking awesome! He looks so much less menacing considering you and your brother are both really tall. He's one of the WWF characters that truly looked scary to me; deflated here.

  9. No one's mentioned Vader's voice yet. Am I the only one blown away by the uncanny accuracy to Jame Earl Jones? Edit. It is JEJ! @91

I thought they used something like Deep Fake voice technology.

Though I wonder if that really is the optimal modern voice for Vader. It sounds so 70s ish and calm-- quite different than Christianson angry and screaming all the time. It's like he calmed down 100 notches.

  10. I've posted plenty of Craigslist stories in the past (mostly bad). I'll add a new one here.

I drive an hour to visit a potential score in silver and bronze age comics. Get there and the wife and kids are busy in the kitchen; husband at work. She lets me look through piles in the garage. I find a very few ok ones, mostly readers but good bronze issues (no keys) littered along with some dell disney stuff I couldn't care less for. I finish and select several and ask the wife to ask her husband. She says, he insists you buy them all or nothing. So, I say, ok no deal. Drive all the way back. I get home, and a few hours later, the husband calls and says, 'what's that pile you put aside?' I said those were the ones I wanted. He goes, 'oh, I'm sorry I thought you were trying to take me on the valuable Disney ones! you can come and purchase the stack.  Anyone think I drove another 2 hours to get them? lol.

Another story. I call for a stack of silver age spiderman titles that all have three hole punches through them. Make a solid offer and guy says ok. As I was getting ready to drive an hour over the bridge to pick them up, my wife calls and says he left a message. "sorry, I got another offer, I sold them."  Just another hell of Craigslist.

One good story. I get an ad that says Richie Rich comics. I go there and there are literally tubs of fantastic RR comics going back to the 50s. So many were stacked inside of saran wrap and various bags in excellent condition. He didn't have any need to itemize and I made a good offer on the spot. Got home, and just opened stacks and stacks of very high end vintage RR comics. Many literally sandwiched between saran wrap. That was a rarity.

Another cool story. I knew a guy that went to visit an oldtimers collection way out in the boondocks and it was during a convention weekend. He got there and the guy had all kinds of high end silver age in piles. He was all mad because he said no one else showed up. The buyer only had like 2k or something and said he would come back with more. The old guy was so upset about it all, he said just take them for what you have, I don't want to deal with this anymore. That guy scored huge and bought a boat and several other high end items. I heard he sold a lot to Harley Yee and a lot of the dealers hated him for the score. I was glad to see the underdog score something for once. He would also hold private garage sales with leftover inventory from that score and I got a lot of good stuff with great prices from him in those days.

I don't think I'd even deal with craigslist now. I had a neighbor who listed something valuable and was tied down with guns, while they pillaged his place. Another recent story -- friend knew a family left with an extraordinary collection of high grade titles from the father (including hundreds of cgs slabbed titles like... xmen 94, GS1, 9.6 duplicates etc). Someone asked to see them in the storage location, and two days later the storage was broken into and pilfered.
