  1. I thought you had also gotten a similar warning from the Mods for posting one of these no-no comments about this whole Cornavirus fiasco we all are now unfortunately having to suffer through? Well, if you don't see me on the boards for awhile, I guess you'll know the reason why then.
  2. Yes. Absolutely. Intensity + Contrast + Brightness all jacked up 15%. He's got the DPI set low to minimize resolution. He doesn't want the fine details scrutinized. I don'/t blame him. Did you ever consider the fact that he's simply trying to put some real meat into his resume in advance of applying for a job with Heritage Auctions?
  3. Moist certainly YES, Yes, and yes!!! All they see is that 9.4 or 9.6 number and nothing else.................then their legs start to shake like anything and their brain goes dead and then they rush to check what their line of credit is good for.
  4. Mitch; Greatly appreciate your thoughtful response to my post here. As a word of advice though, maybe you should go back into your post and edit out my quote to the form of a simple reply. Especially if you want to avoid getting a spanking in the form of a warning from the Mods once they get back into the office or if a boardie with no sense of humor gets personally offended and decides to flag this post out to them. After all, I wouldn't want you to get into any trouble because of my post since I have already gotten enough warnings on similar posts like these that I am due to be booted off the boards sooner rather than later.
  5. Wow oh wow!!! With sample results like these, it definitely sounds as though the OA for the Pin-Up market has really tanked over the last several years. Makes me glad that I have stayed far away from the entire OA market because I have always thought it to be a much more narrow market, as compared to the comic book marketplace, especially in terms of the vintage collectible portion of the market.
  6. On a more serious note though, I certainly hope the local comic shops will be allow to reopen as they start to lift these restrictions in some of the states. Especially in light of the fact that these stratosperhic commercial rents might put some of these LCS's out of business for good if they cannot see any sales revenue for a few months. At least for now, it looks like the Canadian governement has come up with a plan to reduce these rents for small businesses by 75% for the months of April, May, and June if their rent is $50K or under per month. So, hopefully that might help to tide them over for awhile until they get closer to being back to a new normal.
  7. Mitch; It's rather obvious you have been spending far too much time in your fantasy comic book world and really need to get out and spend more time in the real world. After all, have you not heard that there will no such thing as a 2nd or 3rd wave of this virus and even if it does come, it will be much smaller and easily containerable. Even better yet, it sounds as though they have already found the perfect cure for this Covid-19 coronavirus that will work in less than a minute, the only qualifier being that it might kill you in less than 30 seconds if you do take it. Why in the world would you want to make your comic book related buying and selling decisions based upon what boring old scientists and medical professionals tell you, when somebody with a proven track record and able to use their brain and common sense tells you that everything is beautiful and you have nothing at all to worry about? Especially when it was going to be one and done, and then it was going to be 15 cases this week, zero next week, case closed, etc. Since it now looks like a million cases any day now, what's a couple million here and there between friends. You really do need to take your head out of the comic books as this is absolutely one of the best and funniest comedy shows I have ever seen on TV as you never know what's going to happen on a day to day basis.
  8. Ummm...........it sounds as though you do not quite understand how this whole grading process works as this is part of CCG's entire business model and there is absolutely no way that they will want CGC to eliminate one of the revenue streams that adds to both their top and bottom lines.
  9. I use contactless card. Almost sounds like the dark ages if you still have to punch in anything to use your credit card, as I believe the chip enhanced and tap system have been in place for amost a full decade, in not longer, by now.
  10. Now, that's absolutely dumb. As for bidders on these books here, all I can say is that they have even top the seller off as they are dumb and even dumber. Ae you sure that eBay and PayPal will do much of anything with these completed auctions if the bidders themselves are not even willing to do their own simple due diligence before throwing down thousands of dollars on a book?
  11. Well, it's also rather obvious that you should stay as far away as possible when the seller lists the item as being SCARCE in bold in the listing title when there are hundreds and hundreds of them listed currently on eBay for sale. Now, that's the clear definition of COMMON more than anything else. With that, your Spidey sense should already be tingling like mad as how can you believe anything else that would be stated in the auction listing.
  12. Isn't it a case of always Buyer Beware, especially when it comes to slabbed books? Especially when they are willing to pay multiples more for a barely perceptible upgrade in condition (whether uncertified or certified) for a book. Actually, I would be a whole lot more concerned and upset if the second sale was for an upgraded CGC 9.4 or CGC 9.6 copy of the exact same book that was only a CGC 9.0 graded copy a month earlier.
  13. Maybe CL is well aware that it's clearly not a Mile High copy from the famed Edgar Church Collection and the reason why there's no mention of this in their auction description. Or for the CGC label collectors, here's a chance for you to acquire a copy of a Edgar Church "labelled slab" on the cheap for your personal collection. NOT
  14. Why, you dirty rotten census population manipulator!!! You should have done the decent and honorable think by turning in your CGC 4.5 label when you sent your copy back in for regrading.
  15. You know what.......................it would really simplify things if you could provide a total for us at the bottom of your spreadsheet. No interest in comparing the results for the GA books which closed tonight since I believe these books would probably tend to hold up a lot better than the more recent readily available books from the SA through to the CA?
  16. I believe one of the simplest answers for the lower than expected price is probably staring you right in the eye. It's never good for the consignor of the book if an auction house has 4 copies of the exact same supposedly tough book (or clearly NOT in this case) ending within minutes of each other.
  17. I think it really depends on how deep your wallet is as I believe it's going to go at a much higher price point than where it's currently sitting at.
  18. Well, with the exclusion of both Supes 1 and Bat 1 combined with the inclusion of both Mystery Men 1 and Police Comics 1, it looks like you are definitely going with first appearances all the way. Although most longer term collectors would have selected Wonder Comics 1 over Mystery Men 1, I actually agree with your selection of MM 1 since it was a much longer run than the 2-issue run of Wonder Comics before DC's lawsuit shut them down. In addition, Blie Beetle is pretty much still around in the comics today some 80+ years after his first appearance in MM 1. I am also in total agreement with your selection of Police Comics 1 since I feel that this has long been a much under appreciated and hence, rather under valued GA key book that has been overlooked by most GA collectors. Definitely hard to beat when its got the first appearance of Plastic Man and Phantom Lady. Especially since Plastic Man is still around in comic book form to this day and also supposed to get his own movie in the not too distant future. Although the Police Comics version of Phanton Lady is definitely not as readily recognizable as the classic Baker GGA sultry cover version which came in the latter part of the 40's, she's another character who has morphed through various alter egos over the decades to still be around in one form or another. The one that I would disagree with is All-American 19 since the Atom is a relatively minor and 3rd tier character from my point of view and we already have far too many DC characters on this list here. Plus I just wanted to make room for Amazing Man 5 since I consider that to be the flagship and key book for the highly desirable and HTF Centaur line. As for your Tier 2 selection of the Flash/Thrill Ashcan, I would take that off my list since I personally don't think ashcans should be included in these kinds of list. In its place, I would definitely put in Pep 22 into Tier 2 since it is a first appearance of a major comic book character (i.e. Archie and his gang) who has basically run uninterrupted in a slew of comic book titles for some 80 odd years now.
  19. My guess is that the reason they are looking for more consignment items is that they seem to be increasing the frequency of their Signature Auctions. So obviously, it's going to take a lot more books for them to come up with the same type of quality books to fill their auction slots.
  20. paint you mean. 2 weeks. I thought it would have taken much longer than that. I remember Steranko's 7-page story, "At The Stroke Of Midnight" in the first issue of Tower of Shadows apparently took him almost countless months to write, layout, and illustrate as he was just so meticulous at that point in his career.
  21. This caught my eye too. Is this popular just for the cover? Or because of the "allure" of the artist? I think most like the Ekgren covers in the following order: Weird Horrors #7, Weird Horrors #6, and then considerably less so Strange Terrors #4. I assume you must be referring to these 2 covers here then: Looks like both od these Weird Horrors covers by Ekgren sold in the same CC Event Auction back in the summer of 2012.
  22. If you are talking about classic Schomburg Nedor covers, one of my favorite appears to be pretty rare as there have been no slabbed copies sold by HA to this point in time: Managed to find this copy which was sold by Metro/CC for $1,500 at some unspecified date since it does not appear to be through one of their Event Auctions. HTF and under appreciated classic GGA cover with the high end scantily clad society woman being threatened by the gun wielding bad guy, as compared to the long recognized, but much more readily available and expensive Blue Beetle 54 GGA classic cover with the more sultry and spicy woman being threatened by the knife wielding thug.
  23. Mitch, do you own a copy? Clearly, you are asking the wrong question here. The correct question to ask Mitch is: How many copies do you own and are you willing to donate one gratis to a poor cash challenged collector like me?
  24. Fixed that for you Similarly I would imagine, some collectors like signatures and some collectors don't. It's really a case of to each, their own as it's their money they are spending.
  25. Another recent addition to the books that are right up there solely because of the cover would be this one here: Being the El Cheapo guy that I am though, I would much rather go after a still undervlaued book like this one here :
