  1. The Canadians you know must be a lot more patient than the ones I know (there are many snowbirds where I live) and not mind that average 5 month wait for what they deem non critical care. You are most definitely correct about having to wait for certain types of elective surgery (unless you are a sports athlete or somebody else famous) since I heard that there is a rather long wait for certain types of procedures. Not exactly sure which ones they are since I have not personally (knock on wood) or actually know of anybody that has required any of this type of medical work to date. Not exactly sure what you mean by supplementary private health insurance. I assume you must mean the extended health care plan that most working employees received which covers such things as your prescription drugs, hospital stay/ambulance coverage, paramedical services, optical & prescription eyeglasses & hearing aids, dental procedures, out of country travel emergency medical coverage, etc. If that's what you mean by supplementary private health care, it should be pointed out that it's generally paid for by the employer with only a very tiny portion paid by the employees in terms of only a few dollars a month and the equivalent of less than $60 USD per month for retired employees. Since a lot of Canadians tend to travel down to the United States with their extremely outrageously high medical costs, most people tend to also buy additional travel insurance since they think it just might go over the $250,000 coverage they already get from their extended medical plan. Definitely a good deal for government employees at something like only the equivalent of $135 USD per annum for the "family" which includes full travel insurance coverage including 7-figure medical expenses, trip cancellation/interuption/delay, lost baggage, etc. It's actually unbelieveable coverage but only kicks in when the rest of your travel insurance coverage doesn't apply which I found out is almost always when it comes to trying to make a travel insurance claim on your credit card insurance as they look for every little angle to get out of paying you. Definitely not the case with this travel insurance that we get from work. So, I guess my bottom-line is that I would still much rather prefer the Canadian universal medical health care system as opposed to the American paid medical health care system. But I guess like anything else, it's really more a case of to each, their own.
  2. Exactly right and I definitely do not see doom and gloom out there, especially when it comes to the HTF GA books which hardly ever comes to market anyways.
  3. He certainly "Manned Up" , as one has been quoted many times on here saying . Damn !! Well, when you just come out from university and into a profession like medicine, dentistry, or law, the credit card companies love to throw applications your way, just hoping to hook you into their claws for the long term even back then in the old days.
  4. Thanks for the kind offer, Lou. But I would hate for it to to look equally out of place among your 4.5s. That's perfect then..........so you ARE sending me your CGC 8.5 Brenda book knowing full well it's going to bring my VG average collection up higher into the 4.5 range.
  5. The other poster is most likely referring to BIN auctions which is pretty much the auction format that most comic ball transactions are done on eBay because the sellers don't have the balls to see what their books are truly worth and would much rather ask unrealistic prices hoping that a sucker will eventually come along. From what you are saying, you are most likely referring to a true open auction format where the book goes for whatever the final bid comes in at, whether it be low or high.
  6. Based on what? The one auction you watched that jumped to $300 in the closing seconds? Or possibly based upon this rather fugly looking, but relatively more affordable Restored copy of Cap 3 here: Sold for $7,105 or for something like 5.5X condition guide for a Restored book.
  7. Hey Richard; He's definitely right as this lowly CGC 8.5 fugly looking slab just casts a dark shadow like a big pimple on the rest of your beautiful looking books. Being the team player that I am, just send that nasty looking Brenda Starr my way as I am willing to take the hit for you so that the rest of your collection will present just that much nicer.
  8. Not sure if your point of view is correct here since I have yet to heard of any Canadian that would want to have the American user pay health care system over the government funded Canadian health care system. On a slightly different side issue, why are there caravans of American drug tourists that come all the way up to Canada to clean all of the insulin and other cheap drugs out of our pharmacies?
  9. I have yet to find anybody here that would disagree with this point of view yet.
  10. Why, was Florida another one of the states that wasted invaluable weeks laying on the nice sunny beaches with their fingers up their butt instead of preparing for the Coronavirus, based upon the assumption that it would never ever hit their shores?
  11. Just wanted to repost all of the positive comments on this all-time classic cover book before the Mods come in and turf out all of the posts that have the picture of the other guy's slab in there.
  12. I am 100% sure that the Church Collection has a much greater quantity of Centaurs, as compared to the Billy Wright Collection. Especially since the Church Collection had virtually near complete runs for many of the Centaur titles.
  13. Yes, it was those 2 nasty Chinese spies who stole it from a Canadian lab and in their rush to bring it back to their virology lab in Wuhan, ended up........oops....big big oops.......dropping it on the floor of their lab in all their excitement at having just stolen the perfect biological weapon.
  14. On this, I think we can most definitely all agree on this 110%.
  15. I assume you must be thinking of applying for the big federal government handout here? Let me know if it works because I have a whole ton of books from the 80's (including my rare and invaluable B&W's ) and early 90's that I know for sure would have sold for at least 7 figures this month, except that darn silly auction house had to close their operations in light of this whole Covid-19 fiasco.
  16. Aren't all dental offices closed right now in light of the current Covid-19 situation, except for dental emergencies? If you do go, however, and see a copy of Action 1 or 'Tec 27 laying around his waiting room, be sure to pick it up for me please.
  17. If I were you, I would be very careful with what you say on these boards here because you might be upsetting some boardies' feelings if they know who you might be referring to with some of your comments. If so, being the cry babies they are, they'll go running and crying to big Mommy (nothing personal here as I really do love Mommy ) who's working full-time from home. Sadly, Mommy's going to have to apply the big boot to you in order to appease the cry babies..............so you should definitely be careful with saying either positive things or negative things one way or the other when it comes to this whole Coronavirus topic because it's definitely seen as burning red hot political dynamite by some members on the boards here.
  18. I thought I remembered something like this, so I went back to my email to check. Looks like I received one of their standard form junk emails on the weekend from Vincent stating that they had extended their May Event Auction deadline to April 20th "due to requests from their clients" which wouldn't give them much time since this auction is supposed to go live on April 27th. I actually find this rather hard to believe, plus the fact that they already have a total of not yet fully alpha sorted 2,257 lots in their auction already which I believe is slightly than the normal number of lots that they usually have in their Event Auctions.
  19. The berk graded books were noted as such Definitely aware of that as I was lucky enough to win a few of the Berk books in that big CC auction a few summers ago. My comment was referring to the big Overstreet Collection that has not been recognized as an official collection and sadly, will never be.
  20. Every state will be different. It all depends on when they started shutting down. The states that JUST started? They have a couple of months ahead of them. This is very true as I believe it really depends on which part of the country got hit first and then if they took corrective action immediately. Just take a look at the case for North America where the initial epicenters for America was the state of Washington and the province of B.C. for Canada. I assume Washington probably took the same steps as B.C. which was to institute testing immediately and do contact tracing as much as possible for all positive cases identified in order to minimize community spread. Interesting to note that the state of Washington which was at the top of the CV-19 list when this whole thing started dropped down into #7 or #8 spot on the weekend and has today actually fallen into the #12 spot in terms of states with the highest total of CV-19 cases. Same trend with the province of B.C. which started off at the top of the list with hundreds of more cases than any other province when this whole thing started to ramp up a few weeks ago. They've now fallen from the top spot into #4 spot with 25 new cases today for a total of 1,291 total cases to date. Definitely looking a lot better as B.C. appears to be flattening the curve now with cases either staying the same or dropping every day for the past week or so. Definitely a lot better than Ontario which is now almost 4 times a high as BC, even though they apparently have done the lowest amount of provincial testing by far on a per capita basis, with both Alberta nd B.C. running at the top of the charts for this indicator. Sad to say, definitely a whole lot better than those fun-loving and wild party animal French Canadiens in the out of control province of Quebec who are now more than 7X higher than B.C. with something like 9,340 total cases to date and still rising substantially on a daily basis.
  21. Hey Sharon; Since you took the time to send them a message, can you please let us know what their "official" response is if you happen to get anything back from them.
  22. Hey - I was bidding on that Warlock! Why..............is it because those baddies that Warlock is fighting looks quite similar to your avatar image?
  23. Wasn't FF #48 supposedly part of a big warehouse find or something like that? Of course, the other factor is that FF 48 is definitely considered to be a big demand and key SA book, and as such, brings a lot more copies into the marketplace. Being primarily a GA collector for the past couple of decades, I am definitely biased that way as I tend to seek out the much HTF early GA books, and as such, the total census population count on them are usually still only into the single digits after some 20 years of certification.
  24. F**k, that's a deal !! Although I am sure that Dave feels the same way TODAY looking backwards, I am not sure if he would feel quite the same way back then since it was over 40+ plus years ago. Especially since he had just pretty much come out from dental school at the time and needless to say, wasn't exactly loaded down with excess spending money.
  25. Afraid you will have to ask another boardie with more computer literate skills than me since my knowledge is virtually zero when it comes to doing a search on these boards here.
