  1. Definitely not hard to figure out who had the much tougher assignment and made the bigger sacrifice in these two wars here. The soldiers who fought overseas for their country thousands of miles away hoping to be able to return back home safely one day, or the hard done by citizens nowadays being asked to simply stay home so that they can win this war against the Covid-19 enemy sooner rather than later.
  2. +1. It's probably because most of the Asian countries have lived through these kinds of pandemics before, and as a result, take the situation much more seriously and try to PROACTIVELY stop it as soon as possible before it gets totally uncontrollable and unmanageable. Just take a look at their body counts in terms of new cases and deaths and they were able to plank the curve at realtively low numbers. In comparison, North America seems to be taking the REACTIVE approach and waiting for the next event or indicator to show up first before deciding to take the next baby step to address the problem, almost in seeming fear of being seen as overreacting to the situation and having the general public complain too much. No doubt Florida will wait to be like NYC or Italy before they finally get around to taking the appropriate steps to address the problem.
  3. Now, does that mean you can drop orders off? Well, since you seem to live in the highly contagious hot spot of Long Island, N.Y. ; I believe you won't be able to get anywhere close to CGC HQ's since they might not even let you cross the state line into Florida.
  4. There's absolutely no point for the tiny niche GA community to send anything at all to SDCC because we are just so far off their radar screens years ago already. Now, if it was the big movie and TV studios, then they would more than likely perk right back up and listen attentively to what they have to say.
  5. Well, as a true collector at heart, I believe that although he no longer owned the collection from a strict legal point of view, he still considered it to be his personal collection as evident by the following comment in his post:
  6. Well, I guess this definitely goes to show that GA DC Supes and Bats are not where you want to be if you are looking for rare HTF GA books.
  7. Not sure if this makes any sense at all or not? Exactly what kind of contracting work did Ian get done on his house that it would cost him the equivalent of millions of dollars?
  8. Hey Mitch; Do you know anything at all about this so-called rumoured "Indian Reservation" collection that Gary Carter was able to find back in the days, or is this justy one of those urban myths that goes around the comic book collecting world?
  9. OMG........if the Rifleman's manhood is trending down 32.73%, not only is the hobby in trouble, he's going to be in trouble with his female companions.
  10. Have you ever attended one before in the past as I am not sure how it could be lower than it normally already is? I attended the live auction they had at one of the big SD Con's well over a decade ago with over 100,000 comic book enthusiasts at the Con. Considering all of the free food and refreshments they had for the attendees to the live auction, I was expecting to see a pretty large crowd to turn out since they had over 100,000 fans right next door to draw from. And yet, to my surprise, they had only about 20 people turn up or pretty much less than the total number of Heritage employees that were there.
  11. Me too, but I'd be willing to settle for the single Action 2. Less is more. You guys are all so greedy to go for doubles and such high issue numbers. I'll be more than happy and satisfied to settle for just an ordinary copy of Action 1 from 1938 in any kind of condition.
  12. She does not publicize herself but was a fixture at many Cons back in the 90s looking for books to fill the gaps in her collection. Wasn't Levine quite upset with her in the end because she had apparently just beat him in terms of compiling a complete DC collection? Not sure if she has an Double Action 1, but still a woman after my heart with her complete DC collection.
  13. make that a double...LOL Come on, you guys..................Mitch is trying to talk down the market so that he can hopefully snap up some bargain basment deals here. No harm and no foul here, as long as he's not going after the same bargain basement deals that I want to pick up on the cheap in these upcoming auctions.
  14. Are you sure it was 1998, since I believe they haven't updated their website from the time they went into buisness and this was back in 1996.
  15. Especially when they saw what happened with the whole CC fiasco when they updated their website a few months ago, and they still haven't held an auction to this point in time yet.
  16. You mean that CGC would finally see the more of their valuable time spent on grading and slabbing vintage collectible comic books, as opposed to wasting time and tying up their valuable resources on virtually worthless slabbed manufactured comic books fresh off the printing press?
  17. Did I miss something? What update LOL? I believe he is referring to when CGC revamped their chat boards several years ago,and in the process, lost a good portion of the boardies that used to post here. The boards here are like a dead zone now with some Forums like the SA one or BA not getting any new posts for several hours at a stretch, as compared to the old days when it was jumping with much more action and constant banter.
  18. Garbage books have done surprisingly well. Had a dozen in the auction and 5 days ago they were sitting at $500...but are up past $1,500 total now and 5 of them don't close till tomorrow. All in all breathing a big sigh of relief as they're already at what I considered mid range estimate when I submitted them before Christmas. Well, that's definitely good news for you and also a positive sign (so far) for GA collectors, especially given these uncertain economic times we are living through nowadays. Hopefully, it's still a big thumbs up for the rest of your books and be sure to let us know how it all worked out for you when it's all said and done tomorrow night then. If so, Mitch just might have to hold off a bit on his end of the world predictions for the holders of these GA and early SA books.
  19. Took a closer look at both of the front cover scans and I assume the bidders probably simply placed their bids according to how the 2 books presented. So, probably a case of buying the book, as opposed to buying the label, especially when there are so many copies in similar grades. Never good for the consignors when you have 4 copies of the exact same book in the same auction in almost equivalent grades, this time from CGC 9.0 to CGC 9.6.
  20. ..With you, except in the case of Jon Berk. Just my opinion. Most definitely!!!
  21. I strongly doubt this would have happened so fast, unless they decided to do a pre-emptive strike in anticipation of a slowdown to come. If anything, it might arise from the fact that they are deemed to be a non-essential business, and as such, employees in their state might not be allowed to go into their offices for work at this current point in time.
  22. Being willing to take big steps right at the front end for the sake of the "public good" is definitely a much smarter play than trying to take progressively baby step after baby step as the crisis worsens. Especially when you just take a look at the Taiwan example as compared to Canada since both of these countries were at the same point in terms of total number of cases less than a month ago: https://www.cbc.ca/news/health/taiwan-covid-19-canada-1.5502194 Especially if you look at the more up-to-date stats where Canada is sadly (i.e. in near lockdown mode ) now approaching 7,500 cases and over 80 deaths, while Taiwan is happily (i.e. business pretty much as per normal ) still lagging far behind with barely touching 300 cases in total and only a small handful of deaths to date. And that's for a country that's been banned from the WHO and hence took matters into their own hands, and yet surprisingly, were able to keep their body counts down even with direct flights coming right in from the epicenter of Wuhan. For us comic book collectors, the saddest part about this whole fiasco is that not only can we not go down to our LCS's right now, but we are not even sure if they will ever be able to open their doors again going forward.
  23. it will tonight Unless it's got NO actual back cover at all, so nothing at all for them to scan.
  24. I think this is pretty much a given if he's going to stick to his full asking price, especially given the fact that all of the books are raw and the extent of the restoration is not known.
  25. so I take it there isn't the complete 27-38 run of Detective Hidden away as nobody cares about those common as dirt pre-Robin 'Tec books, but front and center is the only copy of Double Action #1 in the entire universe.
