  1. So the numbers we have are fake because of the speculation of numbers we don’t have. No, the numbers aren't fake, as they are simply incomplete which then has the potential to result in misleading percentages. For example, if you are talking about the death rate, it is most likely overstated at this point in time since you are dividing by a number (i.e. total number of cases) that is severely understated because testing is still NOT YET in place to give us an accurate count with respect to this number.
  2. Is this on leave without pay or is this going to be on the taxpayer's dime in terms of Paid Covid-19 leave?
  3. Crisis adverted. I've been able to source a supply that should last me through this issue. I guess you must have walked through a London Drugs store or something like that since I walked into one yesterday and they had tons of toilet paper on sale. Didn't bothered picking any up since we already have tons of toilet paper sitting in our garage as my wiser half always picks them up whenever she sees them on sale. Which is almost always since they ALWAYS tend to be on sale and I am sure there are some from 10 years ago sitting in the back of my garage.
  4. You can always use old Sears catalogs and comic books.... Well, Greggy's in luck then since I heard that CGC 9.8 graded books have more than double the absorbency as compared to CGC 9.6 or lower graded books.
  5. Probably fake news in the sense that you aren't using all of the relevant numbers in your calculations because we simply don't have all of the numbers yet. Even the WHO acknowledges that any death rate that is stated might actually be on the high side right now because we have the denominator (i.e. total number of cases) in the equation is still being understated by a huge margin due to the lack of testing in some of the major countries like the United States.
  6. This is just about the most accurate comment that I have seen on this thread so far.
  7. Yes, I think it's also fair to say that all of the books which you have listed are Marvel SA books which is just only one segment of the overall comic book market. What are the stats like for other segments of the market so that we can have a much more comprehensive picture of the overall vintage collectible comic book market?
  8. Yes indeed, how many times did the markets hit new all-time highs after the news of the Coronavirus first came out on January 20th or was it the 21st, before they finally came crashing down?
  9. I would say that is actually a very valid point and I would also tend to have no problems agreeing with. Even though I would take some of the numbers being reported with a big grain of salt, I definitely would still not want to be in Italy's shoes right now: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ The numbers look pretty much dead on for Canada, but deadly frightening for Italy with another 3,590 cases over the previous 24 hours.
  10. Well, from the rather insane crowds you see at the supermarkets on the hourly news, you'll probably be trading in your Edgar Church books for rolls of toilet paper pretty soon.
  11. Are you referring to where a collector should go to in order to sell off their collection? If so, as per my post from another thread on the GA boards here, it would be selectively choosing between HA, CC, or CL depending upon the particular item you are selling from your collection, as I feel that each one of these 3 major comic book auction houses have their own particular niche:
  12. Well, if you are a GA/SA collector, I believe most of them would be in there for the long haul and Scenarios 2 & 3 would not apply to them. As for Scenario 2, it looks like you are referring more to a quasi collector/dealer situation to me whereby he needs to sell in order to feed the family. Scenario 3 would only apply in the situation where somebody threw all of their money into GA/SA comics, even before they took the bare essentials of life into consideration.
  13. Everyone thinking about selling needs to just save this post. Picking and choosing examples to validate otherwise is pointless. Way too many external factors. I would tend to agree with you here if you also include CC since they are definitely the market maker when it comes to certain GA books, and definitely much more so than CL which definitely also has their own niche.
  14. I would say that is actually a very valid point and I would also tend to have no problems agreeing with.
  15. Unless this disease becomes an apolcalyptic event, no doubt you are correct in saying that the economic fallout from the disease will kill more than the actual disease itself. Sad to see how fast the number of cases are rising in Europe on a daily basis, while they've fallen down to only about 10 to 30 new cases a day in China now.
  16. Yes, I believe that the United States had done something like only 10,000 Covid-19 tests in total as of last week. Definitely a sad case in comparison whereby South Korea was doing something like 10,000 to 15,000 tests per day, while China was doing something like 200,000 tests per day in order to try to contain the virus.
  17. I would have to say that the average person have a whole ton more invested in the market than you probably give them credit for. Especially when you include all of the indirect investors through their purchases of mutual funds and ETF's. I also know for sure that there's a lot more invested in the stock market by the average Joe, as compared to the entire collectibles market combined.
  18. This also serves as a good reminder that it's always wise to ensure you have diversification in your investments. Although the financial equity markets always seems to be the main item in most people's investment basket, it never hurts to also have a bit of real estate and for vintage comic book collectors like us, your basket also looks a lot more attractive with some vintage collectible comic books in there on days like this.
  19. Which book(s) would you be referring to here and what was the time period they were purchased?
  20. Just notice that this Mystery Men 3 that you have here is from the Cosmic Areoplane pedigree collection. Just a quick question for any boardies that are lucky enough to have any in their collection.........are there any Cosmic Aeroplane books in existence that does not have the telltale notations or checkmarks in them?
  21. Maybe. I think it was business, and they were businessmen. Roy seemed to be more of a hippy type So, I guess you are sayimng that Lee and Shooter were much more on the business side, while Thomas, Kirby, and Ditko were much more on the creative side. Similar to Microsoft in terms of Bill Gates and Paul Allen, or with Apple in terms of Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak. It's seems rather rare that you can find the combination of both parts in the same one person, although I guess Mark Zukerberg with Facebook might be the closest.
  22. Don't buy low grade books.....for investment purposes..... Why not, especially in the case of HTF vintage collectible books since they have worked out perfectly fine from a percentage point of view during the past few years. As compared to HG copies which don't often appear in the marketplace, and when they do (if ever), are well beyond the affordability range of virtually all collectors.
  23. Well, based upon what happened in the markets over the past few trading days, it looks like you most definitely made the right call here. No doubt sad for most equity investors, but at the same time, it also presents a nice buying opportunity if you have some excess cash to put back in once the market starts to settle down a bit.
  24. Way too much government over regulation and one of the primary reasons why these stocks have dropped about 80% from their highs of about 18 months ago on the eve of legalization. In fact, as can be seen in Canada where grass has now been legalized, the black market is now stronger than ever with the government stepping in and putting in roadblocks to the point of strangling the entire industry and virtually bringing the entire legalized sector to a standstill. So, instead of eliminating the black market which was their intention with the whole legalization plan, they have completely bungled it to the point of helping the black market grow and flourish like never before.
  25. you mean like the romance books? I can remember when GA romance books were essentially toilet papier (to quote george costanza's gf) - those days are long gone. Well, besides the now uber red hot GGA related cover books and the romance books which you mentioned, you would also have the career girl oriented books like Tessie the Typist, Nellie the Nurse which have sold for thousands of dollars, and in particular HTF books in grade like the early Millie the Models such as this particular copy here: https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/millie-the-model-2-davis-crippen-d-copy-pedigree-atlas-marvel-1946-cgc-vf-80-off-white-pages/a/7177-93031.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 Sold for something like almost $18K a couple of years ago in one of the Heritage Auctions.
