  1. That's good that you are planning to use yur proceeds to help out some of your family members because we certainly can't take the money with us. Actually, I believe you can simply contact CC and ask them for a preliminary advance on the sale of your books with no interest chares or anything. At least that's my understanding from all of the trade ads and emails which I seem to see and receive from Vinny and his gang over there at CC.
  2. I was not given a date. I asked to have my books held, I was told that would not be a problem...so I figured I'd watch and see what was going on and then decide. Hey Sharon; Looks like you actually just might have lucked out here in terms of the timing of the CC auction for your books. According to what quite a few of the boardies are saying about the results from the recent CL auction and the Heritage Auction earlier today, many of the prices seems to be down as compared to past auctions. No doubt, due in part to the impact of the panic and fear resulting from the media hype regarding the Coronavirus and the resulting neagative volatility in the equity markets. So, holding your books over until later on in the year until everything settles down and hopefully returns back to normal looks like it just might have been the best move anyways.
  3. it's on GPA, a 9.4 for $705K (a couple of months after the 9.0 sale for $395K, so it makes sense). I'm unsure of the venue. Well, if it was 2017, that definitely makes sense since that was the Spring of 2017 when Fishler started the big fire under the AF 15's with 3 record setting sales (i.e a CGC 4.5 graded copy for a shade over $37K, a much talked about CGC 5.0 graded copy for $57K, and finally a CGC 9.0 graded copy for $395K) in the March 2017 CC Event Auction.
  4. Not sure if the auctioneer thought it was a great finish at all, as I had posted in another thread on the GA boards:
  5. I'm old enough to know how the world works, however, it still at times hard for me to wrap my head around that kind of money for a comic book. This is not a slight on comics, comic collectors, key comics, collecting comics, AF15, the state of the hobby or anything other than that's a lot of cash. And yes, I know for some people a million dollars is like the change I keep trying to find in the center console of my Volvo. Now, aren't you glad that you decided NOT to place that punishment bid on the AF 15 yesterday as that defnitely would NOT have been boring and you probably would have aged several more years by now if you had.
  6. I was more comparing it to the $705K reported sale in 2017. Not sure what sale you are referring to in 2017 for $705K in terms of either the CGC grade or the venue it was sold on? I assume you must be referring to a CL auction result which has absolutely no auction archive of any type at all.
  7. Ducks are back! 9.4 FC 9 with only C-OW pages went for $38,400 w/BP! I happen to have some free time this morning, so ended up watching some of the auction action on an off and on basis. What a contrast between the auction action for the AF 15 as compared to the Donald Duck FC 9. When it came time for the AF 15 lot, the auctioneer proudly annouced to the attendees that this was the highlight of the entire auction which all of them must have been waiting for. I then felt embarrased for the poor guy as he stood there like a deer caught in headlights waiting for somebody else (please, please, anybody please!!) to raise the bid above the opening hammer bid of $662.5K. At first, I found it rather funny that he didn't even know what the next bid increment level was before finally coming up with the $675K figure. Unfortunately, after standing there for a couple of minutes trying to squeeze a bid (any bid) out of somebody (anybody please), he eventually gave up and declared the book sold at the opening bid of $662.5 and simply moved onto the next lot. Contrast that with the DD FC9 which started off at something like $15K and nursed it up to almost the $20K mark and then stated that once it hit this price point the increments would be much higher. You could see that big smile crossed his face once it did hit the $20K mark and after that, he seem to become quite animated and excited as he kept motioning with his right hand after every bid increment. It was almost like he was egging the telephone bidder to go up just that one more bid increment until it finally hit the $32K hammer price, and at which point he seem so enthused that I thought he was going to do a little jig around the auction floor before moving onto the next lot.
  8. Jeez you guys have huge expectations these days! +1 Yes, I thought there was absolutely nothing at all wrong with the $795K price for the AF 15 since it seem to fall in a nice positive trajectory from the last CGC 9.4 sale at only $454.1K and also in line with the CGC 9.2 copy which sold for $598K last year and the other earlier CGC 9.0's copies in the $400K range before that. If you do a straight up comparison to the last CGC 9.4 sale at $454.1K, that's a percentage return of 75% over 4 years which is certainly nothing to sniff at. Unless you was comparing it to the CGC 9.6 graded copy which sold for $1.1M back in 2011which would be a mistake since I viewed that particular sale to be much more of an outlier and quite a few years ahead of its time. Probably also had a lot to do with Fishler's long and deep connections in the marketplace and hence being able to target a buyer who he knew would be willing to pony up that kind of dough for the book at the time.
  9. Well, ten times lucky and I hope to pick it up for $1,500 or 50% of current top of guide in a few years from now.
  10. Haven't had time yet to do any historical price comparisons, but I woild have to say that the GGA related cover books still seems to be holding up there in price.
  11. Well, it looks like there's still a bit of love for some of these really early DC pre-hero books as this copy here sold for 8,400 for this VG+ raw graded copy:
  12. Very weak price point. Not long ago it would have went $50k+. Someone got a bargain. Well, like I've said many times here on the boards before.........if it's pre-Robin 'Tec books, CC seems to be the go to auction site for these particular books. They seem to be the market maker for the pre-Robin 'Tec's and they've sold a few CGC 1.0 graded copies of 'Tec 31 for between $25K to $45 during the past few years.
  13. Not sure about previous past sales, but I thought the restored Cap 3 seems to continue to motor along at something like 3.5X condition guide for a RESTORED copy:
  14. Isn't this pretty much in the price range that most boardies were estimating the book would sell for. Looks like a nice and appropriate bump up from the CGC 9.2 graded copy that sold on CC last year for something like $598K. Any idea if this is a record price for a CGC 9.4 graded copy or what previous prices have been for 9.4 graded copies?
  15. Short answer... NOPE! So far I haven't really seen a "strong sale" Well, like some of us had posted a few months ago, it's never a good idea to have more than 1 copy of Supes 1 in the same auction. Especially since that kind of contradicts one of the strong selling points behind the buzz that it's supposedly a rare book that hardly ever comes to market. Didn't they also had a 3rd copy posted in the preliminary previews before that copy got pulled. As for strong sales, I thought the 2 Duck books did alright in the end as they both went for over guide which has not been the norm recently. Especially with respect to the Four-Color 9 which moved up from something like $15K up to $32K pre-juice during the live portion of the auction.
  16. Oh wow........it looks like a slightly larger turnout than the one they held at one of the SD Con's over 10 years ago. I was actually shocked at the measly turnout that time, especially considering all of the free food and refreshments they had for the attendees. Even more shocking considering that they had over 100,000 comic book fans right next door to draw from and yet there seem to be more HA employees there than actual attendees.
  17. Ohhh man, that seller took a bath! Finished at $45K, but after BP. Their take home was $38K, and that's before seller fee. Ouch, and you were right, the grade bump meant nothing!!! Don't forget about the additional costs involved to "improve" the book plus the slabbing fee to regrade the book a second time. Yes, with GA books in most cases, it tends to be much more about relative grading than absolute grading. Buyers don't tend to pay that much more, if anything at all, for a highest graded copy that is now 3 increments higher than the next highest, as opposed to just 2 increments higher.
  18. Since I am also worried about the health of the general population out there, all of you owners of CGC 9.8 graded books or higher or books with a value of $1,000 or more need not have any concerns. I will be sure to self-quarantine all of these books within my own personal collection for the full 10-year incubation time period.
  19. It's certainly possible. So far what I've read says some corona viruses can live a few days on a surface. It's not known if this strand can. Sad to say, but I was talking with a research scientist who's been doing quite a bit of work with this virus for both the WHO and CDC, and he confirms that this corona virus will indeed have serious impact for comic book collectors going forward. Due to the material used in making the CGC holders, apparently this corona virus can actually live on the surface of the holder for several years. In addition, not only is this virus both infectious and highly contagious, but it has also been found to be very discriminating. Apparently this corona virus targets only CGC slabs that are graded at 9.8 or higher and also any books that are valued at $1,000 or higher. Being the caring board member that I am who is always concerned about the health of other boardies here, I am more than willing to sacrifice myself by taking the risk of holding onto these hazardous slabbed books for you until the incubation time period of 10 years for these CGC holders is up and these books are safe for you to hold once again.
  20. How sure are you about this since the incubation time period for this virus is up to 14 days and you are only on Day 5 right now. I certainly hope you have put yourself into self-quarantine for this suggested 14-day time period after putting yourself in such a precarious situation.
  21. it is not any type of flu, which is the problem because there is not a vaccine at this time, And yet even with a vaccine in place for the regular seasonal flu, there were still something like 45 million flu cases and 61,000 associated deaths for the previous flu season year.
  22. No, I did see both of those boxes with the CGC books which were comprised of quite a few Baker romance slabs as you said. Took a long look at one of the Pictorial Romance books which appeared to be undergraded, but passed on it as pretty much all of them were at multiples to guide. Being the El Cheapo guy that I am, it would have to be either a very special book or I that I really wanted before I am willing to pay either a huge premium or multiples of guide for.
  23. What was the previous price before it was lowered to this current $900K price point?
  24. Now, that's a huge step up from the $10K pre-juice that it was sitting at last night. Glad we highlighted this book to you then and the consignor will be super glad that you stepped up to the plate on his book here.
  25. Makes me wonder how much higher this book would have graded without the rather obtrusive looking date stamp? Personally, I don't think CGC should be downgrading pedigree books that have telltale signature pedigree codings on them, as I actually see them as a plus. Then again, I guess that's just me as I would personally prefer a Church book with the MH coding, as opposed to one without the MH coding.
