  1. Probably more so in the afternoon as I jumped out of the pool and went back to the locker room to check on what was happening with both of the Wonderworld's. Looked like the Wonderworld 11 was already on it's final bid in the end, with possibly no real extended bidding. Definitely more action with the Wonderworld 7, but even here the bidding was relatively tentative, especially in comparison to the Mystery Men 3 the previous night. Now, that Fox book was really rocking and rolling with the competing bids coming in fast and furious. I actually thought the Wonderworld 11 might have done a bit better considering its grade, regardless of the clipped coupon. I definitely would not be surprised to see this copy sitting in a higher graded GLOD slab on a dealer's site for double what it was able to fetched here.
  2. Did you simply borrowed these 2 from the library and then just paid them the standard $5 or $10 penalty fee for a lost book?
  3. Well, you can certainly never go wrong with books endowed with absolutely gorgeous and colorful artwork by BWS, especially when they are in grade. Absolutely love the blue background contrasted with the girl in green on that Conan #6.
  4. That has to be one of the best Goldenage covers for colors and concept ever created! You are 100% correct when it comes to the colours on this particular GA book. I still remember being down at one of the SD conventions back in the 90's and Pat Kochanek was walking around with the Church copy of this book and absolutely raving about the combination of bright colours used for this cover.
  5. Well, I guess I definitely do as this was indeed a bit of a shocker to me. Save for the pre-Robin 'Tec books where Metro seems to "control" the market, I always thought Heritage tends to produce bigger gross results for their consignors. Much more of a wash though once you deduct for the substantially higher fees that Heritage normally charges their consignors. It would appear that Metro or CC still have some bigger and dedicated clients that don't necessarily pay close attention to all of the various auctions that are taking place throughout the year. Some of the bigger clientele needs to have an auction listing pointed out to them if a particular book hits the marketplace that fits right into their wheelhouse. Needless to say, Metro definitely has a huge rolodex and knows how to point certain clients to the "right" books when they do become available in their auctions.
  6. How do you know it's not my undercopy. Why, you naughty hoarder, you! Is that why there hasn't been a decent copy of Wonderworld 11 that's hit the marketplace in well over a decade now, because you've been snapping them up before they ever get there? The only one that I can remember is a raw VG+ copy that sold on eBay for almost $3K a couple of summers ago. Somebody must have really wanted that copy to be paying that kind of money for a raw relatively lower grade copy.
  7. Wow, thanks for reminding me........I really love the purple colours on this cover as it's a color that's not often used on comic book covers. Gotta go dig out my copy, but yours is definitely a real superb copy and a true keeper.
  8. I am certainly hoping so, otherwise I'm going to be looking pretty stupid for paying the same price for a book 20+ years ago that has gone absolutely nowhere in terms of market valuation. Of course, that was way back in the mid-90's when Fox books were red hot for a short while there and even dealers were paying multiples of guide for them. Interesting to see how interest in comic books cycles around in various phases if you hold onto something long enough.
  9. I'll take the Wonderworld 11 for where it's at right now...........oh, I already got my copy for pretty much the same price 20+ years ago. I guess that was back in the day when WW 11 was the second most valuable issue in the entire run after WW 3 since it featured the origin of the Flame. Definitely not the case anymore as every other earlier issue in the run has now passed it in terms of valuation according to the OS guide. With the Gerber Photo-Journal and now with books being encased in slabs, the rise of the classic covers over actual story content is quite apparent. Also clearly evident with the pre-Robin 'Tec run when 'Tec 33 with the origin of Batman used to also be the second most valuable book in the entire run after 'Tec 27, although it would seem that 'Tec 33 is showing a surge of interest recently. Will be interesting to see if this non-classic cover book is even able to hit condition guide price. Hopefully it does, considering that the only higher graded copy was Berk's Mile High which went for $19K, so I guess we'll see if this copy here is able to get past its current $800+ bid price. Especially when it appears to have been graded quite tightly relative to its assigned grade and the right buyer will most likely be able to "squeeze" a lot of love out of the book and run it for a double or possibly even a triple from its current bid price.
  10. I was thinking with that large dating written right on the front cover, the actual book might not look quite as appealing in hand as it does from the scan. But still, those bright colors really seem to pop right off from the cover page.
  11. Which then makes me wonder why the Heritage buyer would sell it almost right away after just acquiring it a few short months ago. It's not like he's going to be making a ton of money on, probably breakeven or possibly even a slight loss at the best.
  12. Any opinions as to whether this copy of Wonderworld 7 on CC tonight: https://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?id=758840 will be able to beat the price it sold for at Heritage last August: https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/wonderworld-comics-7-fox-1939-cgc-vf-80-cream-to-off-white-pages/a/7166-91162.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 My thinking is that it'll be very close, but probably just a tad shy by the time it's all said and done.
  13. Just took a quick look at the listings for this final day. With the current heat on for GA classic covers, I imagine that there is still quite a bit more bidding to go (i.e. firework fun and games) for books such as the entry level Suspense 1, the nicely restored Target 7, both copies of Terrific 5, and the lower grade copy of Venus 19.
  14. Definitely an interesting conversation about the potential impact of the Conserved label. And in that sense, what are your opinions of the Green Qualified label, especially when it pertains to something like a missing interior piece or a clipped coupon. Especially since some of these appears to no longer be sitting in the dumpster bin, based upon some of the recent auction results I've seen.
  15. I'm sure it will be a painful win at that No idea on the WW 7, but it's interesting to note that it's currently still running about $4K shy of where it finished up at when this exact same copy sold at heritage last August. But I do believe I know who will get the WW 11 as it's Ritter's forte to snapped up these Fox books that are running under the radar. Especially in the case of this one which is still running at only half of condition guide whereas all of the other 4 early Fox books were already running at multiples to guide days before the end of the auction. Depending upon the final price here, his MO for these Fox books is to "squeeze out" (pun fully intended ) a double or in this particular case here, probably a triple from what he had to pay. Especially when the only copy graded higher is the Jon Berk Church copy that sold for $19K, so $700+ should be a no-brainer here for Ritter.
  16. Yes indeed, as who would have ever thought they would be worth multiples of what we had paid for them back in the day. Especially when we used to be told that we would be lucky to see only fractions to guide for our books when it came time to sell our collection. And yet if today's CC auction is any indication at all, they are actually often being sold at huge multiples to condition guide, whether they are in low grade, mid grade, or dare we say sometimes even in restored condition.
  17. I think it's funny to see which books were "hot" prior to being in Wizard's Hot List each month and those that became hot afterwards. We bash on people for coming in the Hot on E-Bay threads and tying to bump up certain books they own but I'd think Wizard was just one big advertisement for books they wanted to see jump in prices. What I found absolutely hilarious was when a supposedly 'red hot hot" book would finished up at the top of Wizard's Hot List for the month with a big price tag, only for the book not to have hit the newsstand because it had ended up being delayed as it did not meet either its publishing deadline or its shipping deadline. Happened on quite a few occasions, if I remember correctly.
  18. Although it's like a world of their own based upon the prices realized from this auction here, I guess it was more like a galaxy of their own in previous CC auctions when the supply was significantly lower.
  19. Well, definitely not as much fireworks with the Science 2, but I I guess that was because it was already up there in price even before the extended bidding: https://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?referral=EAlist&id=747963&title=SCIENCE+COMICS+(1ST+SERIES) Still a nice price at $9,400 and not totally surprising since it's both a Larson and a Jon Berk copy.
  20. Great book Sha! +1 In full agreement here as I absolutely love that bright blood red eye-popping cover.
  21. Looks like there's still no stopping Seven Seas 4: https://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?id=756711 Went for $13,200 big ones or well over 8X condition guide for what is about the 10th highest graded copy. Now, that's definitely an indication of how strong the demand is for this book here.
  22. The voices kept telling me to bid higher. Well, huge congrats on that pick up of a classic cover then. You are definitely da MAN!!!
  23. It's not going strong any longer. I guess all good things must eventually come to an end. Still a fun and exciting show while it lasted. Looks like it ended up with a total of 56 bids and a triple over the price it started from as it went into the extended bidding: https://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?id=757505 It would definitely appear that these 2 bidders were not doddling around as they just went for the next bid up almost as soon as the bid amount changed. No hesitation at all on both of their parts here.
  24. I'm just glad to have a copy So am I. That was definitely fun to watch and most assuredly more so for the lucky consignor of the book. https://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?id=757505 It looked like it was going to keep on going forever as it ended up with a total of 56 bids and the price doing a triple from where it was when it went into the extended bidding. I guess the next one is going to be the restored Science 2 in about a half hour from now. I wonder if we are going to see the same amount of fireworks with that one there?
