  1. Yes, It would appear that's the last one which all of us have received to date. Seems awful strange since CC would normally have all of the various auction sessions emailed out before the actual auction starts up in the past.
  2. Just wondering if you guys have still been receiving your Event Auction Session links from ComicConnect this week? It seems like the last one which I received was for Session 3 Parts 1 & 2 and both of these came on this past Monday. Just seems rather strange since they usually email these out at least a week ahead of the actual auction dates. Not sure if they are simply running behind or am I off their mailing list?
  3. I just knew the colours would be eye-poppingly blinding and just dripping off the page.
  4. Sure is a toughie - that's a really nice looking 3.5 (mine is a de-slabbed 6.5 and yours looks just as good!) Yes indeed, the CGC Census Report indicates that besides Berk's former Church copy graded out at a NM 94, the next highest graded copy is only a CGC VF- 7.5 copy. Doesn't appear to be quite as tough as the MM 7, but looks like another that's tough to find in grade. I guess you didn't bother with the Larson copy of MM8 because the Larson List indicates a light stain on the back cover and another one on the front cover at the spine. This would probably detract from the usual eye-popping colors that seems to be a signature of books in your collection.
  5. Having seen scans of some of your books, I can just imagine the colors must be dripping right off the cover, as though it was fresh off the printing press.
  6. Well, it looks like it is still the 2nd highest graded copy of the census population report after almost 2 whole decades of grading. So, it looks like you are probably still good to go unless sacentuar decides to get his Larson copy graded. Not sure how far down CGC will knock it down for the clipped coupon, but it might still have an outside chance of giving Berk's former Church copy a run for its money. Especially considering how meticulous he always is when it comes to selecting books for his own personal collection.
  7. So true - I have the Larson copy of Mystery Men 7, and while it is bright and beautiful it also has a coupon clipped out of the back cover. Well, if it's got a clipped coupon it's definitely safer to keep it out of the hands of CGC because they apparently apply the sledge hammer to this particular defect, as it's probably one of their no-no's. Don't really understand the purpose of the GLOD in this particular case then since they already include this defect on their label notes and apparently downgrade significantly for it already. I am starting to think the GLOD label would probably be more appropriate for early SA Marvels with Marvel chipping where they don't really take the defect into full account when grading, and yet at the same time, don't include the defect as part of their label notes while encasing it within a blue unrestored slab. Would certainly facilitate a more fully informed transaction between buyer and seller that this particular significant visual defect had not been FULLY taken into account for grading purposes. Knowing your books and how you collect, I am 100% sure that the MM 7 with the clipped coupon must be an absolute beauty of a book with full gloss and color as virtually all of the other books in your collection.
  8. Ya that's true but start collecting when you turn 4 ? Didn't Fishler also started when he was just a young tad by flipping collectible comic books to his elementary school teacher? I believe it was said that he had already acquired all of the SA and possibly even the GA keys by the time he was a teenager.
  9. Maybe there's well over a hundred thousand different reasons to flip this one so quickly. After all, if a CGC 3.0 graded copy could fetch $66K in the CC auction last March, imagine how much a unrestored blue label 5.0 graded copy might fetch in today's hyper drive marketplace.
  10. +1 That's probably because they thought it was like Marvel chipping and decided to give it a pass from a grading point of view.
  11. This was won by a dealer and will be cleaned and pressed. I hope to see what it looks like after. James G Here is your answer Tec 29 Wow, that's quite a bit of shall we say "improvement" on this copy here. Don't you love it when you can still find "unrestored" copies of these almost 80 year old books that have somehow managed to survived the ravages of time to still look so amazingly clean and wrinkle free after all these long decades? Or not so much.
  12. Yes, definitely very appropriate. I am sure that he is presiding over Comic Heaven in his after life right now, as he had been presiding over it in his real life prior to this.
  13. And he's got pretty much the exact same ad and picture with another 5-page spread in this year's edition of the guide. The only difference being that "the last ten years" has now morphed into "the last 30 years".
  14. Mystery Men 7 is one of "those" books, I just love it. BTW, just noticed that there's a CGC 4.0 PLOD in the current Hakes auction. Definitely one of the toughest of the early Mystery Men books to track down, especially in half decent grade. For example, even Berk's Church copy of this book manged to grade out at only a CGC 8.0 grade and that's still the highest graded copy to date after almost 20 years of certified grading.
  15. To each their own, I would say as there are many here who buy and pay according to the label, regardless of how the actual book itself presents relative to its assigned grade. I guess it really depends on how much confidence and trust you have in CGC's ability to grade not only accurately, but also to grade on a consistent basis. Based upon what I have seen over the years, I would personally be wary of paying multiples more for a meagre and subjective 0.5 increment in grade.
  16. I suspect Entry level pricing for an attractive for grade copy. The 9.0 mf 74 on heritage was down 50% from what it sold for last year. Looks like I must have missed this post when Gator first responded. Yes, it would definitely that the MF 74 took a pretty big hit on Heritage as it sold for almost 20% below the Overstreet condition guide price. Does anybody here have a link to the MF 74 sale on CL as I am wondering if that copy did any better on that site there? I guess there's not much love for many of the 2nd tier DC super heroes like Aquaman and Green Arrow.
  17. A true comic book collector filled with passion for our hobby here with lots of stories to tell from the early days. Definitely a huge and sad loss to our comic collecting community here and one who left us way too early. Condolences to his family and loved ones and may he tell his endless stories at the big comic convention in the sky.
  18. this ^ I've consigned several books through Heritage before and when My book(s) were up live for bidding it automatically disabled all the bidding buttons on my end. I assumed this would pretty well be standard on all of the major comic auction sites as I also heard this was definitely the case with CC.
  19. +1 In full agreement with you here that there definitely appears to be a much larger than a 0.5 grade difference between these 2 copies. In no way, does that CGC 8.0 graded copy looks anywhere close to an 8.0 copy. For example, I was just looking at another CGC 8.0 graded copy of a book in the current CC auction and it clearly looks far superior to this Lois Lane #1: https://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?id=719786 Of course, it's a GA book and might be attributed to different graders as I have found that the grading on GA books seems to be tougher than on SA books over the past year or so. Then again, it's also a Green label book and probably the reason why CGC pounded it down to only a 8.0 grade for the missing coupon. Absolutely hate it when I paid $5 for the CGC notes and it actually has LESS info that what's shown on the label already, with the note stating only "coupon cut out page 32". Gives me the feeling that I was just ripped off. Does this mean that the book was perfect everywhere else (because it kind of appears that way from the front and back covers long with the PQ) and was simply knocked down from somewhere in the 9's down to this CGC 8.0 only because of the clipped coupon? Maybe I should take a flyer on it since it's still sitting at only around $200 to see why it's graded as only a CGC 8.0 book.
  20. For what it's worth, this copy of Seven Seas 4 on CL certainly presents much better than its assigned VG 4.0 grade (at least from the front cover): http://comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAUCTIONS%2FDEFAULT.ASP%3FFocused%3D1%26pg%3D30%26x%3D50%26y%3D13%23Item_1233258&id=1233258&itemType=0 And since you was so kind to point it out to us, here's your copy that is still available for bidding: https://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?id=756711 Certainly also a very nice copy (both front and back cover this time ). The problem with CC auctions is the absolute lack of any descriptive write-up on virtually all of their books, except for the keys. This also makes it very very easy for potential bidders to miss the book entirely. Especially when it really has to stand out on its own and sell itself since there is absolutely no written hype on their books, unlike both Heritage and even CL.
  21. It doesn't matter whether it records a higher price or not because when recorded to GPA, the seller or auction house remains anonymous anyways. It doesn't say so and so seller/auction house sold this book for this much on this date. Its only the grade, the figure, and the date. I don't really think it's about low sales having a negative reflection on his auction site. I think it's more just about the trending of the prices and how CL only ever wants to show increasing prices to give the misleading and false impression that prices moves in only one direction with the comic books. It would definitely be biased or misinformation if CL had their way with how they reported their sales.
  22. Wow.....now that's just an absolutely gorgeous pickup!!! Very well done.
  23. +1 Definitely a far superior looking copy as compared to the higher graded CGC 7.5 Marvel chipped copy.
  24. Yes, it would appear that the current actual amount of chipping on the right hand side is relatively minor for now. If you take a closer magnified look at the book though, you'll noticed the multiple cracks along the right edge which indicates to me that there could be substantially more chipping on the book going forward as they pop off. Maybe these cracks were also taken into account as part of the grading process?
  25. Are you talking about that crook Danny Dupchak from Eastcoast USA that trimmed and color touched lots of nice SA, GA comics books and got a 'File Copy' stamp to use on the page 1 margin to create his own file copies? My blood boils when Dupchak, robojo, or whatever other alias he is using is mentioned. Yes, I guess a lot of us old timers probably had a run in with Danny Boy back in the day. The only good thing is that he always had these outrageous and absolutely hilarious reasons to sidetrack whatever point you was trying to make to him as he was explaining why he couldn't reverse the scam he had just pulled on you. You couldn't help but to laugh at some of the absolutely ridiculous stories he came up with. Patience is always a virtue though, as opposed to the macho bravado he always exhibited when he had the upper hand on you, he was really nothing more than a wailing crybaby when the tables were turned and you had him by the balls and squeezing hard while dragging it out for months on end.
